Event Description

Each year the Santa Cecilia Orchestra features its own orchestra musicians as soloists. Conductor Sonia Marie De León de Vega, the string section of the orchestra and SCO soloists explore time (Baroque) and place (Argentina) in a chain of gem-like pieces for string orchestra.

Fresh off its sold out performance of Natasha Marin and SCO Friends, a concert featuring music for solo piano as well as duets, ending with the dazzling Mendelssohn trio, Santa Cecilia Orchestra (SCO) announces that it will host Santa Cecilia Orchestra Soloists, its next concert of the 2010-2011 season.   The concert will take place at Occidental College’s Thorne Hall on Sunday February 13, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.

Music director and conductor Sonia Marie De León de Vega will lead the orchestra performing Concerto for 2 Violins Op. 3 No.2 by Antonio Vivaldi, J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and Concerto for Violin and Oboe, Suite Argentina by Alberto Williams and Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango.  Featured soloists include Salpy Kerkonian, Melissa Phelps, Yi-Huan Zhao, Anna Kostyushek and Alexander Kalman.  SCO also welcomes back the celebrated radiance of its special guest artist, pianist Natasha Marin.

In this concert, audience members will enjoy the individual talents of SCO musicians in repertoire ranging from the virtuosity of Vivaldi to the genius of Bach and the passion of tango master Astor Piazzolla.

There will be one performance only of this program, which will take place at Occidental College’s Thorne Hall, 1600 Campus Rd., Los Angeles on Sunday February 13, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.  Tickets priced at $26, $20 and $7 (youth 17 and under) are available by calling the orchestra office at (323) 259-3011 or by visiting

The next concert by the Santa Cecilia Orchestra is a performance of the “México Sinfónico!" on May 22, 2011.  A season schedule is available at
