Ana Ruiz commented on Melissa Torres- Flores's blog post 5 Ways to Become Better at School and Work
"This post really helped me a lot! This has been a really stressful semester for me; I really haven't been getting a lot of sleep or eating. Thank you for reminding me to take a break! "

Mariana Stavig commented on Ana Ruiz's blog post What I Do and Don’t Like About Women’s Health Magazine
"It is amazing how the dieting industry is so pervasive. It is no coincidence that "resize your thighs" was probably fit in between advertisements for different supplements, work out clothes and accessories, gym adverts, etc (this is based…"

Ana Ruiz replied to Latinitas Intern's discussion Should I stay or should I go away for school?
"There's good and bad to both staying home and leaving town. You just have to weigh out your options and think about what it is YOU really want. It's important to have the input of your parents, but they'll usually end up supporting…"

Ana Ruiz commented on Ana Ruiz's blog post What I Do and Don’t Like About Women’s Health Magazine
"That's the only health magazine I am subscribed to. I am subscribed to a vegetarian magazine but it is not as geared to women, so the lines don't blur quite as much."

What I Do and Don’t Like About Women’s Health Magazine

As a fan of healthy eating and exercise, I’ve made every effort to stay informed on the nutrition front. After reading countless blogs and articles on “Is Peanut Butter Really Bad For You?” and dropping in on a few nutrition classes, I made the decision to bring the information in the mail by subscribing to Women’s Health. However, this decision has been slightly bittersweet. Like- Every edition comes with handy fashion tips on how to play up your good attributes and keep up with the newest…See More

Advice for the SAT

The SAT:“You have to register for the SAT,” your counselor says. You nod in agreement, knowing this is a fundamental step towards your college goals. The problem is you have a lot of questions. How do you register? What should you study? How do you stop yourself from panicking as you take the test? How will you ace the SAT? Of course you could ask your counselor, he or she has the answers. If you didn’t ask, here is a convenient guide for the SAT.Before anything else, you must register for the…See More

Don't Stop the Growth

As the largest minority in the United States, we as a culture should continue to grow. With this growth, it is not just the rise of the Latino population that is important. The community needs to grow in its voice in the United States. More Latinas and Latinos need to know that their culture is vastly underrepresented and do something to change that! Without a voice, it does not matter if we grow to a tipping point for that voice is what truly represents us. The lack of representation we have…See More

Hispanic Role Model

Some people enter this world to have fun and wreak havoc. Others behave like saints throughout their lives. They do the right thing, they mourn through their pain in silence, and they always act as a helping hand to those around them. A frown does not flutter across their faces except when they see others in pain or suffering. A person should be lucky to meet a person such as this for then they would have an angel. My grandmother, Ana Maria Ruiz, has suffered intense pain throughout her life.…See More

You Don't Have To Look Far To See What Makes Latina Women So Strong.

Latina women have the tendency to be very, very stubborn. Once we have an idea or a project in mind, there is little anyone can do to stop us.  We are determined and focused in the tasks we have at hand.If you take a look at the number of women that are single mothers, you can see that according to the Kids Count website,  41% of single mothers are of Hispanic background. Nothing takes more leadership than leading an entire family, especially alone. When it comes to Latinas, they treat being a…See More
