Finals

As we all know, school can become challenging when reaching the end of a semester. Taking honors or AP classes makes the toll even larger when you need to complete current assignments as well as study for the upcoming finals. I think it's important to take every day of the school year seriously because then, when it comes to the end of the year and you're being tested over information from nine months ago, those days that you slacked off may come to haunt you. This year was the first time I…See More

Bawston

Last week I attended a journalism convention with my school publication in Boston, Massachusetts. While there, we all attended numerous sessions that would help us as young journalists. The sessions emphasized on how to conduct better interviews and write better stories. Capturing your audience's attention and maintaining it all has to do with the tone of your article. The best part of the trip overall was definitely meeting all the other aspiring journalists. Everyone was so much fun to talk…See More

Pride

I'm overwhelmingly proud to be a part of the hispanic community. If it weren't for my culture who would I be? If it weren't for my mother's constant mantra of "back in my country we would say..." I would be a completely different person. My fondest memories are of being in Panama eating my Abuelita's arroz con leche as she would tell me stories of her childhood. Or dressing up in my Pollera during Festival and walking down the Panamanian streets as everyone would laugh and dance to the music…See More

You Do You!

Does the completely self-confident teenage girl really exist? The answer is no, but that shouldn't be an insentive for us to self-loathe on every little detail about ourselves. Everyone is different, and we need to embrace those differences rather than trying to change them to fit into what we believe is the social norm. As Latinas we have so much to be proud of! Let's celebrate our beautiful curves and our infectious energy! There was a point in time when I tried to hide my roots rather than…See More

Let's Talk About Our Lorde

So I'm assuming most of you know about Lorde already. Lorde is an up and coming new pop artist from New Zealand and she's only sixteen! She's really head strong and has a sort of I'm-going-to-do-whatever-I-want quality to her. Recently, she's been talking a lot about how girls are being pressured to live up to these unrealistic expectations that media has brainwashed us with using endless amounts of photoshop on magazine covers. Being so young I feel like she can connect to us on a more…See More
