What is love? Baby don't hurt me

On my nine hour flight from Miami to Paris to visit my amorcito, I had A LOT of time for reflection. I giggled as I thought about all the slime balls and egomaniacs I dated in the past. It was a mental bloopers video. I couldn't help but laugh at all the mistakes that led me to where I am now, feeling my best in a healthy, positive relationship. But boy how my bloopers video goes on forever...You name the red flag, I ignored it. Unhealthy dynamics? Been there, done that. When I first started…See More

"I got all of my HPV vaccinations and am happy to have done so. It is important to look out for your health. Vaccinations save lives. Think measles, mumps, rubella, polio--these diseases have all been prevented with vaccines. Yet in some places these…"

Savvy shopping, happy living!

As the holidays approach, we are bombarded with ads about all the new and wonderful things we can buy. Marketers know how to appeal to our senses. We live in a society where we are taught that exchanging money for goods feels really, really great. Have you noticed how stores play cool music, use cute bags and packaging, and place unnecessary items right in your line of vision or at check out to make you consider buying what you were not intending? Did you really need that extra nail…See More

Happiness is Hard Work!

Growing up, mi mama would always tell me that only I can make myself happy. She would say "to be sad and upset is easy. To be happy is very constant, hard work." As a teenager prone to drama and mood swings, I was not always particularly good at following her advice. Break-ups were epic sagas deserving of an original Lifetime movie script, friendship troubles were greek tragedies, and school was a torture chamber. I could have made things a lot easier for myself following her advice. She was…See More

Alone, but not lonely

Last week, I experienced for the first time in my college career, the "solo dinner." My college has just one cafeteria, an administrative effort to facilitate a sense of community by breaking bread under one roof. Between 430 and 8pm, students flock to fill up on the less than filling, mediocre food that constitutes a college meal. Texts are sent all day long, confirming lunch and dinner plans. This particular day, I did not feel like turning dinner into a social event. I did not want to…See More
