Hot Topic - Going Back To School

What do I like most about going back to school? I would have to say the bustle and hustle that comes with the school year. I like to keep busy and we all know that once school starts life get crazy...but I rather be feeling the non-stop life then to be bored out of my mind:)

Chris Brown's Apology

I couldn't help but feel like Chris Brown's apology was insincere and staged. His words did not seem genuinly regretful and seemed like they were thoroughly rehearsed. Now how sorry can someone be when it doesn't come from the heart??

Hot Topic Response - Some of the biggest issues in our community...

Some of the biggest issues that we should be aware of within our community are affecting our youth. They include violence, criminal acts, and lack of positive guidance. The last one is the most important to me because I feel that by increasing the presence of a positive guidance we can actually eliminate the first two (and many other issues connected to those). Some of our youth want to believe that they ‘know it all’, but that’s just not the case. But this type of attitude is exactly what…See More

Hot Topic Response - Michael Jackson's Death

Posted on June 30, 2009 at 7:47am 1 Comment

OMG! That's what I said to my husband on Thursday afternoon over a text message. Then again in the evening when I got home. And again at night when we were getting ready for bed. It was truly a shock and very hard to believe! My husband made the comment that everyone else seems to believe, "He (Michael Jackson) was the one person in the world I never thought would die! Or surely we would all be dead before HIM!!"

I think that his influence on us throughout his entire life was beyond… Continue

Hot Topic Response: Is machismo a problem in our culture?

Posted on June 24, 2009 at 7:55am 0 Comments

Yes, I do. In fact, I think it can be seen all over the world and in different types of cultures. However, it feels more prominent and obvious within our own culture because that's what we encounter day in and day out (especially in a border city where our culture is the majority).

The idea of a machismo provides mixed feelings for most of us, though. As a woman, I love my independence and to believe that my husband and I are a team. 50/50 in our relationship, so to speak. But, any time I… Continue
