Fourth of July is almost here, which means it’s almost time to take a day to really appreciate and take pride in our country, our soldiers, and most of all, our freedom with fireworks, barbeques, and family: things that truly show our patriotic side… right???
Men’s Health Magazine made a list of the 100 Most Unpatriotic U.S. Cities and named El Paso, my hometown, the 99th most unpatriotic city in America. The factors that contributed to this list included the percentage of registered…

Late night TV has had undergone major renovations these past years. David Letterman had his intern scandal in which he managed to survive unharmed, his ratings remaining stable. Ellen DeGeneres got married and cried over her pet's death. Oprah announced the end of her talk show reigning era, but with the introduction of her own network. George Lopez, opened the pathway for Latinos on Late Night, hosting his own show on TBS.
But the biggest drama of all in Late Night (no it's…

As I’m sitting in my freshman writing class, I look to my left to see two girls sitting beside me. I then look to other side to see another girl sitting at my right side. I look back to see that I’m surrounded by girls! Women are going to college in ever-greater numbers, shifting the male-female ratio from women being the minority at colleges in the 1970’s to women making up more than 54% of young adults enrolled in college. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2005 Population Survey, about…

Recently a new law has been passed in El Paso regarding texting and talking on the phone while driving. I know for most people this has created an inconvenience when trying to get some information while on the road, and for others they enjoy not having to do this while driving. I know for myself I personally like the new law. Although I never really had a problem with this since I drive a standard car, I still feel that this causes accidents and puts your focus on something other than driving…

Nothing beats having a great tasting pizza from your favorite pizza place. Well at least for me nothing can beat that haha. I think I can literally eat pizza all day everyday. I usually have it with mushrooms, jalapenos, and pepperoni. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! I also love Mexican food as well. No one can come close to making the great dishes that my Abuela makes for my brother and I. She enjoys making us Chile Colorado, Chile Verde, Bean Burritos, Chile Rellenos, Posole,…

It has become common practice to ask the race, or culture of someone else. Many times people have turned it into a game. Sitting in class on the first day of school, introducing myself two seconds pass after I say my name that I'm asked what nationality I am. The person next to me begins to guess, Mexican, Puerto Rican and sometimes even Indian.
I don't find it offensive or intrusive, because we no longer live in a world where cultures must… Continue

Staying connected seems to be the phrase of our generation. Whether it’s through text messaging, Myspace comments or Facebook chat, it is easier than ever to “stay connected.” With a click of a button you can communicate with family, long-distance friends, co-workers and boyfriends/girlfriends without any actual face to face contact with them (unless you’re on Skype, which is the closest to real life face to face contact with someone without actually being in the same room or city or state or…
