I found it very interesting reading an article about Miley Cyrus and Taylor Lautner and how the public criticized their pictures differently. We all remember Miley's questionable pictures taken at a photo shoot for a magazine. It gave the allusion she was not wearing a shirt because you can see her bare back and like a towel or blanket covering the rest of her body. I do agree that such photos should have never been taken, especial at her age. But does that kind of thinking process change once…

Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing. You can take everyday actions to limit your exposure to the flu be it seasonal or H1N1. These helpful tips were provided by our friends at Kappa Delta Chi, a Latina-based service sorority.
~ Flu vaccines are available. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says vaccination is the best protection we have against the flu.
~ Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands thoroughly with…

Have you noticed a lot of pink around lately. Pink is more than a fashion statement; it is for a great cause. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, so wear your pink ribbon with pride. This is an issue that is really close to my heart because my mom died from breast cancer when I was little.
Sadly, this disease is affecting many Latinas. Breast cancer is the leading cause of death among Latinas with studies showing only 38% of Latinas age 40 or older get regular…

Two teens were cited by police this week in Utah for rapping their order on a McD's drive-thru!
Really? For rapping?
Having worked in a drive-thru for years (at DQ when I was 16 and at Starbucks when I was 18+) I've come across some crazy people that do and say crazy things, especially on friday nights, but I never would've thought that rapping an order would've been serious enough for a ticket.
As a matter of fact, being on the drive-thru listening to those kids rap their order…

I had today "one of those days." Its the day that everything seems to be going wrong and when you think it couldn't possibly get any worse... it does. It started off like any other day, but i woke up late. So then I didn't have time to eat breakfast, and I forgot my lunch (so I had to buy something to eat). Then I remembered I had to buy snacks for my English class so that put a dent in my time. Soon after I realize i had a heavy load in my backpack today, plus i was collecting bags for a…

My mom came into my room today and told me that because I work with children so often, it was a possibility for me to be considered a priority in getting the swine flu vaccine. Great! The problem is...I DON'T WANT TO GET THE VACCINE!
I think it's too new and not tested enough to be a safe option for me. I don't know what the side effects are both in the short-term and long-term.
I hate vaccinations, and if i were to get sick, I don't even have health insurance to go running to the…

You can't live with them, but then you cant live without them! I seem to be very confused, and yes I am having some boy troubles! Right now I am upset, hurt and very very flustered!!!!!!!!!! I got hung up on yesterday, and I don't know exactly why. Although I did get a reconciliation phone call this morning, I just don't know what to make of it all. I am feeling spread too thin, I think that a guy should be a compliment to your life, not someone who makes it more complicated. My thoughts also…

This past Saturday I woke up pretty early. Having to be at the office five times a week by 8 am will do that to you on the weekends! My mom was still asleep and I didn't want to wake her. I figured I'd get up get ready and run some errands before I had to go to my other job at 3 p.m. I didn't feel like eating breakfast at home so I decided to head to Alameda for some menudo. Yummmmm menudo...I love it. I went into this diner that I remember going to with my Mom. I remember a few times when I…

Now that Halloween is only a few days away I am getting in the spirit a little more. But that means I am stressing about what I'm going to wear. I am really trying to not to spend too much money. What do you girls think I can pull off with stuff just laying around at home?
Also what are you all plannin' on dressing up as? Anything original or exciting? Let me know, I am so interested in knowing what you guys have in mind for this year's night of Tricks and Treats.

I went to the mall on friday after work for some much needed shopping relief. Oh yes I know how stereotypical that is....a girl at the mall on a friday night talking about how therapeutic shopping is for her.... Well I haven't gone shopping in a looooOoOong time and I don't find it to be a stress-reliever, I was just happy to have a little extra cash to spend after weeks of tightening my spending.
Whatever that's not the point of this blog. My point is how at the mall on Friday, they were…

Things I’ve Noticed
Everyone who follows BronzeWord Latino Authors posts and links from @LatinoBookNews knows that I love doing research. Usually I go to a blog and look for their email address and their Twitter name so I can contact the owner and invite them to participate in what I’m doing. Or if I am twittering their article, I want to use their Twitter name so they know that their post had value.
Because of my constant searching, I have seen a few things that work well…

Well after i got back from eating a hot dog with EVERYTHING not just a plain bun and wiener (jk D) i got sleepy and took an hour nap. I have to admit that i had the craziest dream ever and really want to know how i came up with this. Well the dream was that me and some people that i have never seen in my life were standing in the street and i had bought some stuff and put them in a black grocery bag and made a knot around it. I felt this bag very important something that i had to give to my…

I read an article today regarding hate crimes targeted at Latinos. The article cited FBI stats regarding crimes occurring against Latinos as being on the rise.
"FBI statistics show that anti-Latino crimes are on the rise. There were 595 anti-Latino crimes in 2007, up almost 40 percent from the 426 crimes in 2003; the Latino population in America grew only 14 percent during that time," the Latino News article said.
Crimes have occurred all across the country, not only in areas…
