Latinitas-Hot Topic-Dream Act

I do support the Dream Act. Many students as it is want to come to the U.S. to expand their knowledge and to meet with new opportunities. I believe that there are many students with great ideas and knowledge and that is something that should always be recognized in most countries, and if U.S. is lucky to be chosen by these students, than they should be accepted. These are immigrants who actually want to do something in life and who are wanting to attend college in U.S. where there are so many… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-Honoring Selena

Over ten years have passed since Selena passed away, but her memory is still very vivid today through her music. She is a great success story that unfortunately ended tragically, but her music is still very much alive. I still like to listen and dance to some of her songs. I don't think her music will ever stop playing, or that it will ever stop touching people's hearts in some way. The fact that there is a movie about her says a lot about her. Her life story was so much like a movie that it… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-Cesar Chavez

I see Cesar Chavez as a very brave man who fought for his rights and for the rights of the other farm workers. His phrase "si se puede," is very encouraging not just for him, but to everyone in general. Yes we can is a very inspiring and positive phrase. I think to keep this in mind is like self encouragement. He is an inspirational person because what he worked for was not easy, but he was able to achieve that. He was able to put a name on all farm workers and this inspires me to believe in… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic- Woman I admire

I have to say that throughout history and my personal life there are many women who have done great things. Women have achieved many great accomplishments, such as voting rights. I find that women can be very strong and hardworking. A woman that I feel admiration for is a lady from my work. I work at the front counter at some cleaners and she works in the back, cleaning the clothes. I am not sure her age, but I would have to say she is between 60 and 65 years of age. I see how hard she works… Continue

Spring Break

For spring break I wen to Mexico City and to Morelia, Michoacan in Mexico, which is realllly nice. I had never gone to Morelia before and i absolutely loved it. Mexico is full of great food, so much culture, very nice people, and beautiful arts and crafts. Not to mention that the prices are great for food so delicious and for things so well made. I have to say I am very proud to come from a Mexican background even though I was born and raised here in El Paso. Over the break I also had the best… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-

Celebrities are under the huge pressure of keeping a standard weight to be no more than 115 pounds. If even a little over they are already being criticized by the media. You always see on t.v. shows on the 100 sexiest beach bodies, or best and worst, always comparing bodies. This makes celebrities very self conscious about their weight. Also, just the way the are criticized about gaining weight, they are also criticized about being too thin. I understand that celebrities need to keep in shape,… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-Chris Brown and Rihanna Reunion

I personally really like Rihanna's and Chris Brown's music. They are both very popular right now, but I think it is very hard to have so much fame in a relationship. They are both extremely busy with different schedules and events and they both have to be committed to their own responsibilities. It is ten times harder trying to keep a relationship when you are BOTH so busy. There is hardly time for each other. I honestly think that it is a mistake for Rihanna and Chris Brown getting back… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-If I were President

I honestly find the job of a president to be very hard. Mainly everything that happens to the nation depends on the president's choices. I understand that his job comes along with much pressure and for that same purpose can be very stressful. I think that if I were president I would immediately bring a change to the economy. I am not sure what is to be done to fix the economy, but i know that would need to be fixed immediately. I think I would also try to bring an end to the war. I feel that… Continue

My Introduction

Hello to everyone, my name is Natalia Aguilar and I am 20 years old. I am a current communications print media student at UTEP. I hope to become fashion editor for a magazine one day. I was born and raised here in El Paso and I guess you could say I grew up with both cultures because at home and with my family all I spoke was Spanish and at school and with friends always English. I have a mix of both cultures in me. I graduated from Coronado high school in May 2006 and entered into UTEP that… Continue

A New Beginning

We as a nation are living a new beginning with the recent election of our newly chosen president. For many of us it may be a new opportunity to find hope for our economic and social status. I can say that many of us were in favor of President Barack Obama because the nation is in need for some change. At this point I still feel it is too early to give my exact opinion about our new president, but one thing I know is that he wants change for our nation as well. I feel that he is inspired to make… Continue
