I'm 23, far from getting married, but I have thought about this issue before: whether to someday take my husband's last name or keep my own. Growing up, I fantasized my wedding - I would marry my favorite Beatles member (impossible dreams of mine) and become Mrs. Lennon. I was always so intrigued by the fact that my last name would someday change; the possibilities are endless. Then, I grew up. Weddings no longer seem magical to me, and the only thing I'm looking forward to (about…Continue

I received a ukulele for Christmas and the first thing I did was join my dad and brother in learning this holiday song. It's our rendition of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's cover of the song "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" originally sung by Nancy Wilson.

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt want to know what you will be doing to ring in 2013!
Best wishes for all of you this coming year!

I recently came across this article about certain celebrity women afraid to call themselves feminists. I found it very interesting that most of them declared themselves in support of gender equality but "not feminists." Hmmm. I respect their judgements and opinions, but it makes me wonder: do we really know what feminism means?
The actual definition of feminism is…Continue
One of my favorite cities in the world is going through some tough times right now. I’ve been keeping up with all of my friends who live in New York City, following their documentation mostly via Instagram, and I am so thankful that they are all okay. No one I know personally has been seriously affected by the storm, but I am very aware that many people in the multiple areas hit by Sandy have not been so fortunate.
There are lots of ways you can get involved, whether it’s volunteering…Continue

I am not a U.S. citizen; I only have my Permanent Resident Card (also known as the Green Card) so as a result, I cannot vote. Womp womp. Once I figure out the whole dual-citizenship situation (or trio-citizenship since I now have my Spanish passport! Ahhh!) I will apply for U.S. citizenship, but for now, I have to watch the election from the sidelines and feel somewhat helpless in the decision the country makes.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I’m 23, I have a bachelor’s degree, and I’m in a good relationship. I’m where I thought I wanted to be when I was 8 years old – minus the fact that I’m not a famous musician – but at the same time, I’m not anywhere close to where I want to be.
As a child, I wasn’t one of those energetic balls of sporadic dreamers who went from having their lifelong 20-minute dream of being a hairdresser to suddenly wanting to be an…Continue

It's that time of the year again... well, almost. Okay, okay, so it's more than a month away, but I'm already thinking up some great costume ideas. I'm a sucker for history and I'm in love with the clothes and music from past eras (I'm a little disappointed in my generation's aesthetics), so I'll take any excuse I have to dress vintage. In the past, I've done:
- Audrey Hepburn (specifically Holly Golightly from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's)
- 1920s flapper

Yesterday, the girl I nanny asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. This made me smile; I'm glad someone still thinks of me as at least somewhat of a kid (in comparison to all the adults asking me what I'm going to do with my life RIGHT NOW, THIS SECOND, FIGURE IT OUT ALREADY).
My exact answer was, "You know, that's what I ask myself everyday." I went on to tell her I'm interested in a lot of things, one of them being a writer. Her eyes lit up at this idea and asked me if…Continue
I’ve been listening to the Beatles since I was a dancing fetus.
At four years of age, I already had in mind who I wanted to marry. Unfortunately for me, the only four men I thought I could ever love were either 50-something years old or… dead. Their music, however, was as fresh as it had ever been.
The Beatles, whose career peeked in 1964 and lasted until 1970, were one of the most successful and influential bands in the history of popular music. In fact, they…Continue
I recently read an interesting blog post by Giselle Rosas, talking about the importance of traveling (you can read it here). As someone who also grew up in different countries, I can not agree with her more. It is crucial that we open ourselves up to other cultures and other people, see what the world has to offer us. Traveling is an essential part of growing up and finding yourself. We are so lucky that…Continue
