Thanksgiving Day

Yes, time flies... holiday season is around the corner and what celebration could be a better beginning for it than Thanksgiving Day. I love Thanksgiving Day, not only because of the delicious dinner, or the excitment of getting the family reunited, but because I think gratitude is one of the most important feelings you may experience. When you are grateful for the things you have or the situation you are living, you experience peace. Inner peace is priceless, you need inner peace in order to… Continue

Let's heal the world!

It's always a pleasure to meet people that are conscious about several "diseases" our society has nowadays. Unfortunately, we are "ill till death", we suffer from different diseases as a society. Fortunately, diseases are being detected by a large number of people and a small but yet considerable part of this group aware of our illness is doing something about it. We suffer from racism, violence, egoism, materialism, cruelty, ignorance, indifference, etc. I could go on and on telling you…

What a world of ours! Every one of us living our hectic lives, following our own routines, experiencing the same things over and over again. I am sure there are some fortunate ones that are not immerse in a robotic every day routine. However, I am sure most of us have found ourselves in this kind of situation and that's why I must tell you that a little bit of craziness never hurts. You might want to spice up your life just a little bit, or maybe spice it up at all. It is OK to do something… Continue

Job hunting: Make it less stressful

We know we are living tough times. It's getting harder and harder to find a job in today's stationary economy. Therefor we have to take advantage of whatever opportunity it may come. For instance, job fairs, seminars to improve your resume and your interview skills, internet job search engines, networking and referrals among others. First you have to have an easy-to-read, informative, and straight to the point resume. The next step is to look for a job, you can search on the internet. There are… Continue

Eat, pray, love... but do it your way

Yesterday I watched Eat, Pray, Love the movie. I really like the movie, I kind of felt identified with the character of Liz Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love book's author) interpreted by Julia Roberts. Why did I feel identified with the character? Well, because she is in a constant search to find herself as well as I feel I am. I think everybody is in one way or another searching for themselves, but as I said on my past blog, everyone does it at their own pace, and some others have may found themselves… Continue

Everyone has its own path

Nowadays, there is a tendency to think that you should planify your whole life in order to be successful or for you to achieve the things you want. Some people worry about not having an established life plan. I am sure you know a lot of people who don't have a particular path yet traced and live their lives so stressed out that you wouldn't believe it. I am sure you know some others that don't care that much about planifying their wholes lives. My point here is that everyone is different,…

Border cities: A common mindset

Living in a border city has its own cultural implications. Now imagine living in both border cities. I am not talking about being a resident in both cities, but doing your daily activities in both of them. In my case, I am talking about Ciudad Juarez in Mexico, and El Paso, Texas in the U.S. The contrast of these two cities are notorious, so are their similarities. The contrast is primarily the economic development from both countries, and their similarities are the cultural mindset people from… Continue

Classifying Messages in Advertising

We live in a world where advertising plays an important role in our society. We are bombarded with lots and lots of messages about what should we have, what should we wear, what should we eat, where should we go, etc. etc. etc. Advertising is everywhere, it is practically your daily bread, so we have to deal with that. The issue here is, how are you dealing with ads. Do you let ads influence your life that much, or are you able to classify ads into what is convenient to you and what is not?…

1492: the year America changed

October 12, 1492... history was about to experience one of its biggest changes ever. Since that day, America was not going to remain calm anymore... Christopher Columbus discovered America, and after that, spanish arrived and started to conquer almost every territory in what we now know as Mexico and Central America. After this event, word of mouth was spread so rapidly among European people that other countries such as Great Britain and Portugal made some trips to the "New Continent" and…

Study Abroad: A wonderful experience

Four words to describe it: a dream come true. Studying abroad was probably one of the most exciting experiences I've had. Since I was little I dreamed about traveling all around the world and France was one particular country I wanted to visit. When I was in college I took four courses of french and then I thought -it would be awesome if I just have the opportunity to study there- I didn't have the money to pay a semester abroad by myself, but then I realize that economical barriers were…

Against animal cruelty

The title speaks for itself. I am AGAINST animal cruelty. This is a very important issue because eventhough I'm not a vegetarian, I'm against the use of fur, against mistreating animals for our entertainment, against hunting just for fun, against killing them to satisfy selfish commodities or luxuries. I have seen several documentaries in which an ugly truth is revealed, animal cruely. Those documentaries are one of the sadest things I've ever watched. Seriously, the manner in which those poor… Continue

Be proactive!

Proactivity means thinking ahead a situation and act in the most favorable way to make a positive change of it, it means to anticipate and be self-initiative. I think this is the key to every country, business, and person's success. By being proactive you contribute to the natural movement of things, and by the natural movement of things I mean the everyday rhythm of life and to the society "machinery". Being proactive means you are always willing to give that extra mile without having to have… Continue

First impressions matter, or NOT?

I bet that you must have heard that first impressions matter, and that is because they usually do matter. or that is what society tells us. We tend to think that way because we haven't been told the contrary. We as a society are so concerned with image, and what an image portrays about somebody that we forget about the things that really matters. We judge right away after seeing a person and stereotype them. I am not saying that all of us are like that, as in every other case there are some…

Continue

Learning as your everyday meal

It's three o'clock, you haven't ate but air, you are starving and craving for at least a bite of a sandwich or a cookie, have you picture this yet? If you are imaging this as I am doing right know you're probably getting hungry in case you haven't ate yet. But what about those who did eat, are those people hungry? not anymore. Satisfying your hunger is a primary need, everyone knows that. People know when they're hungry and satisfy that need right away, because they don't like to feel…

The power of your mind

Have you ever had a bad day? Have you notice that each time you find yourself in a situation where the day doesn't seem to go as you have planned and keep thinking about that, your day actually gets worse? I got an answer that eventhough has not been scientifically proven seems to me very logical. I am talking about the power of your mind. You may have not even realize how powerful your thoughts are. For example, when you wake up in the mornings with a negative mindset and saying -oh, it's…

Work for living not Live for working

It is definitely certain that nowadays society is living at a fast pace. It is also certain that we living the "american dream" are so absorbed by capitalism. Consumption is our last name, unfortunately. Yes it is true that consumption is essential to keep moving our devastated economy but, I think we might be taking this too seriously. It is so sad to see people literally living for their jobs, instead of spending time with their families, helping their communities, or just having fun. It… Continue

Volunteering Service: An opportunity for yourself

Most of us say we want to help our community in one way or another, but the question is, have we done it so far? I bet you that some of you might not, most of us have the intention, but not all of us really do something about it. It is known that volunteering service is good for the person itself doing the service, and for the people for whom the service is being made. It is a both sides beneficial activity. I was involved in some volunteering service, just because I wanted to help. I did get… Continue

Trash TV vs TV with a purpose

Everyone has its preferences regarding tv programs. It is definitely true that nowadays we have an extensive selection of programs to watch. I think that television should be entertaining and informative, however there are some programs that might be "entertaining" but not informative at all, notice that I put entertaining between quotation marks because there are some programs that in my personal opinion are classified as trash tv. Trash tv to me is television with no subject or objective,… Continue

Does this really matters?

Does this really matters? I think everyone has thought about this question many times. Have you been in a situation where you were very angry at someone? Have you been sad beacuse of something, or someone? I think if everyone is honest, all of us can agree in having passed for a similar situation, and the question that might passed through most of us is, does this really matters? Of course you think about this question after you got angry, or after you cry for hours, and if…
