Although this painting depicts the wrenching emotional pain Frida Kahlo’s divorce from Diego Rivera, art speaks to people in many different ways. On the left is the traditionally dressed, exposed Frida, with her broken heart . On the right is the stronger, cosmopolitan Frida, whose intact heart feeds the other Frida. Both hearts are connected to a locket containing a picture of Diego Rivera. The sky is filled with stormy clouds that portray agitation, and in profound loneliness, she holds her own hand which is her sole companion. This painting speaks very well to me because this really represents both sides of me. It represents my Mexican culture as well as my American culture. These two points of view are very different but nonetheless, it is my favorite work of art by a Latina♥
