Latinitas - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

This weekend I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Austin film festival and It was a blast . Day one consisted of making the film passes and badges while walking out and handing it to the directors and producers themselves. I arrived to the Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin (the venue where I was stationed) and the commotion was incredible. People everywhere, photographers and reporters walking up and down the stairs, and the crowd of people waiting to get into the film area. It was truly a sight. I worked four hours "behind the scenes" where I printed out the badges, cut them, and placed them on a laminated lanyard, while getting the info package and the swag bag to the person.

Day two, I was actually registering people and handing out pre-purchased badges tot he important people such as filmmakers, producers, and screen writers. It was fun to interact with so many people, and since part of my job required asking for their drivers license, I noticed people traveled from all over the country to be a part of the 20th annual film festival. I saw a couple from Hawaii, many groups from California, and of course, many Texans.

I saw Chad Michael Murray's film badge, and I actually got  glimpse of him! He is indeed VERY good looking (; I ran after him to hopefully get a picture but I have no idea which set of stairs he had gone up on. Since I was working during the time, I did not have the luxury of roaming a huge hotel in search of a beautiful man like Chad. Sad right? but the experience was still exhilarating nonetheless.

I also handed the pass to famous actor  GianCarlo Esposito's manager. I was not lucky enough to see him but meeting such an important person gave me goosebumps.....besides the fact that the venue seemed like Antarctica (the AC was on full blast the whole time! ) I'll remember to take a sweater next time.

Overall, this experience was very rewarding, and I am grateful for the opportunity. One thing that I learned from my experience, is that I need to invest more of my time on film watching! All those films scheduled to play seemed so interesting and unique! New hobby perhaps? I think yes!
