As the semester comes to its midpoint...papers, tests and assignments begin to pile up. For me, it's really hard to pull all nighters. I'm the type of person who functions way better during the day but inevitably, there are times when I have no choice but to stay up way past my bed time to complete important assignments. I've tried a bunch of different things as far as caffeine goes but nothing ever really seemed to work for me. Hot coffee, weirdly enough, would actually make me sleepy instead of give me the boost of energy I needed to stay up, iced coffee was better but it wasn't long-lasting enough, caffeine pills did the job but it gave me a jittery feeling that I really didn't like. I didn't really know what else to try until FINALLY I saw these chocolate bars called "AWAKE" at HEB. I read the label and I was sold at Milk Chocolate. The bar is divided up into 4 pieces and on the back of a label there is a caffeine prescription for how many pieces you should eat depending on how long you want to stay up/what you need to do.
I bought one bar because I had a lot of reading to do for one of my classes so I figured that it would be worth a try. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first but after trying it, I was definitely proven wrong. I ate the whole bar at around 11 pm and stayed up and energized until I finished reading at around 4:30 am. They work better for me than anything else I've tried and they taste so good (I do have to confess that chocolate is my weakness, though).
Overall, I'd recommend AWAKE bars for sure but I will say that it might not be the healthiest route to go if you are counting calories. One full bar of AWAKE contains 230 calories which is less than a Starbucks coffee but those calories can definitely add up without exercise! In my opinion, any caffeine supplement should only be used when necessary. Constant lack of sleep isn't healthy so just keep that mind. Hope it works for you!
