I think, overall, I've always had the same mindset about Latinas. I knew that although we are ridiculously passionate about everything, we're not the stereotypes portrayed in the media. Unlike the stereotypes that paint us as sensual beings who are only good for one thing, Latinas are incredibly strong, intelligent, and multi-talented women. This idea has only grown in my mind over time. The older I get, the more I see just how strong and amazing Latinas really are. It makes me proud to have Mexican blood coursing through my veins. The fact that I am able to appreciate how wonderful Latinas are is so important because instead of letting the media's portrayal of us bring me down, it empowers me. I'm going to prove that we are as talented and as intelligent as all other women--and men.
My perception of what it means to be a Latina has given me the strength and vision needed to tough it out when I feel that people aren't taking me seriously. It makes me want to do better and be better. I think many Latinas feel the same way, and thus, we will all strive to succeed and make our fellow Latinas proud.
