It's never good to wake up to bad news. Inevitably it happened today. An devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan along with a 30 foot tsunami. I was in shock and immediately thought of the people in Japan that are being affected by this diaster. I watched news, looked at some footage and people that they interviewed. I also thought of my Japanese friend that lives in Kyoto, Japan. Thank goodness, she reported via Facebook that she, along with her family were safe and sound.
The quake center hit in the north eastern coast of Japan and was felt throughout the country including the capital, Tokyo. Tsunami warnings were in effect throughout the Pacific includling the pacific coast of the U.S (Hawaii, Cali, Oregon)., Mexico, Peru, Austrailia most Pacific islands like Guam and Samoa and many others. Fortunately, the waves did not cause much damage throughout the Pacific.
I have a soft spot for Japan and was deeply saddened. Japan is one of my favorite countries, (yes, I have favorite countries) because of it's interesting history, culture and technology. I always tell my mom that I'm going to live there one day, she is not very enthusiastic about that since it's very far away.
I am closely following the news and relief efforts for Japan. My thoughts goes to all those in Japan that are affected by the disaster.
