LatinitasMagazine.org - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

Yesterday I watched Eat, Pray, Love the movie. I really like the movie, I kind of felt identified with the character of Liz Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love book's author) interpreted by Julia Roberts. Why did I feel identified with the character? Well, because she is in a constant search to find herself as well as I feel I am. I think everybody is in one way or another searching for themselves, but as I said on my past blog, everyone does it at their own pace, and some others have may found themselves already. I have heard some people that have some negative opinions about the movie. For example a friend of mine thought the movie was all about an insecure ungrateful woman who happened to have the money to travel and "discover herself". I respect his opinion, but I disagree with him because although I think everyone should be grateful for the things that life offers to you and your life and everything, I also think that if you find yourself in a point of your life where you are not completely happy, or that you just feel this emptiness inside you, I think you should look for experiences that can fill that emptiness. A point that I really like about the movie is that at the beginning she had the "perfect life" and I put it between quotation marks because she wasn't really happy, but she wasn't happy because she has not found her own equilibrium, and this equilibrium is found at different stages in each individual's lives. Don't conform with the so called "perfect life" society want us to believe, everyone has its own perception of happiness, what may fill you may not fill your partner, and viceversa. So the message is pretty clear, in order to live a happy life and make other people happy, you have to be happy first. So pursue happiness, how? only you have the answer for it.
