Attending SXSW last week for Latinitas actually proved very empowering as far as female identity!
In a world where women often face discrimination in the workplace SXSW panels were nonetheless bursting with successful female leaders.
From directors at mult-million dollar companies like Uber and HBO, to fashion leaders like Lucky Magazine editor-in-chef Eva Chen and makeup guru Michelle Phan, SXSW presented a diverse pool of business genius that also happened to be largely female.
Being able to witness these females in action at SXSW as they discussed their passions and their careers reminded me that in this day and age females are accomplishing more and more in the public arena. I hope to attend next year and witness more female empowerment.
However, is important to remember that the freedom women enjoy today in the USA is due to the efforts of past feminism. Without the heroes who battled for our right to vote and to enter the workplace females living today would be unable to go after their dreams. The past is never dead - remember the feminists like Susan B. Anthony [a suffragette] who battled for future girls just like us.
