Hello. Summer is here and that means summer blockbusters! With all the summer movies coming out, I thought this was an interesting video that shows how there seems to be very little female representation in many movies.
I saw this video called The Bechdel Test for Women in Movies which is a test that detects the presence of women in movies. In order for a movie to pass it needs to answer yes to these three simple questions:
1) Are there at least two women in the movies who have names?
2) Do these women talk to each other?
3) Do they talk to each other about things other than men?
Although these questions seem simple enough, it is quite surprising how many movies do not have that. In the video it is mentioned how this test is not even to see if it is a good movie or a feminist movie, but it is just a test to detect female presence in movies. I found this to be extremely interesting because it is one of those things that could go easily go unnoticed since it happens so often. This is an interesting test to keep in mind next time there's a movie on.
