I am finally graduating on Saturday December 11, 2010! I can't say it enough how happy I am to be finishing the second big step in my education to get to my career goals. I can still play back memories from elementary school and middle school that included talks from people that encouraged us to graduate high school and go to college. I still remember my career goals growing up. First I wanted to be a teacher, then a physical therapist, then a fashion designer, and then I finally reached the decision of wanting to be a licensed counselor. Graduating from high school was one of the first big steps in my life and that seemed to go by so fast. As college came around I must admit I wasn't sure what to expect. I began to become familiar with the way things worked in college and how things were different as well as alike in high school. The big difference is the fact that you are more responsible and independent. You get to determine what classes you take, how many you want to take, and how many hours. You also get to decide if you want to go to class. This is not the case for all the classes though. Some classes do decide to use attendance as a grade, so going to class is not an option, you do have to go. Homework is due when they say it's due. Teachers often give you the dates of your homework at the beginning of the semester and expect you to write it down, stay organized, and get things turned in on time. Life of a college student can be fun but it can also be stressful. In my opinion if you aren't willing to work hard then college may be something that will turn out a bit more difficult for you. The reason I say that is, is because classes in college take effort and not all of them are an "easy A" you have to work hard to earn your grade. Then there are those classes that are so discouraging it seems like you won't even pass. I've had my share of those classes. While I may have struggled through a few of my classes on subjects that I don't think I do very well in, getting help really worked. In college help is always offered, even from your teachers. If you're willing to put in an extra effort to help out your grade then things will work out well. Books, papers, homework, and the college social life is going to be a bit different now that I'm graduating. It will be nice to put down the books and not worry about typing up a twenty page report. I won't exactly have to worry about homework for a while either. My break from papers, homework, and classes will only be for a few months though. I plan on continuing school in order to get my Masters in Counseling so that I can be a licensed counselor. I know that will require hard work as well. As happy as I am to be getting through another step in my life I'm just even more anxious to work hard to get through the next one. I want to continue to go to school so that I can reach my career goals, work with children, and help out others better their lives. To other girls who have graduated and are graduating CONGRATS because I know it took hard work to get where you are. To girls who have not graduated yet keep working hard and don't let anything set you back from where YOU want to be, you can do it!
