This past week, my Latinitas were visited by special guest speakers to share about themselves and their careers in relation to media and technology. For my elementary school, we had founder and online radio host of NotiHispano, Mario Tapia! :D The girls conducted a press conference type interview and learned so much about him and his career in radio broadcasting. The girls were shy at first, but with his engaging and friendly personality, Mario was able to get the girls into action and by the end, they were shooting questions at him faster than he could answer. They didn't just ask about his career, but they also wanted to know about his everyday life. Did he have any children? Did he miss home? What was his favorite animal? :D Mario was an incredible host and cheerfully answered each question. He repeatedly encouraged the girls to explore careers and find what they like to do most and do it! The girls really enjoyed his company and were excited to explore their own careers options.

At Pearce middle school, we were visited by Melanie Gomez, KUVE Video editor! Before the press conference began, we opened the club with an ice breaker in which Melanie engaged in asking the girls what their goals and dreams were. This way, she got to know a little about them. Afterwards, we switched it on her, and the girls had a chance to ask Melanie about her life and the ins and outs of her career. Melanie shared her personal video resume and the process she went through to land her dream career. Although there were some more difficult parts of her job, she said she enjoyed doing what she did and would not change it for anything. She advised the girls to make goals and work hard to achieving them. She told them to take advantage of the time they have now to explore career options and look into colleges that would be best for their career. Melanie was an awesome guest and really got the girls thinking of what their goals were for the present and for their future.
