While skimming through my senior guide the other day in my counselors office I came across a page that had a list of wages based on your education level. It made sense that a person with a lower education got payed less than someone with a higher education level, but what didn't make sense was that a female with the same amount of education as a male got payed less every single time!
I couldn't believe this I knew women had faced discrimination for many years but I had figured that by now someone would have taken a stand. I couldn't believe that with all the female activist that there are in the world not enough of them had ever gathered to make a change. Many women are afraid to ask why a man gets paid more, you wouldn't want to ask your future manager during an interview what the men are being paid, he might as well not hire you if your going to be so difficult as to ask such a question. Women may never have the same benefits or job opportunities as men, and there is no way that this can continue without something being said. It's not fair!
I thought it was smart that counselors had intentionally put these wage comparisons in our senior guide books as ladies we deserve to know that we are being cheated out of an equal pay when many times we are equally qualified or even more qualified for a job position than a man and it has been proven that in many circumstances we posses greater work ethics. Although the counselors did supply us with this information they never did explain it to us I think that if they had a riot would have broken out amongst us girls.
Maybe it's about time we seriously take a stand against this discrimination and stand for what we believe in, we pushed our government to give us the right to vote and have equal opportunities we should push for equal pay, being persistent can pay off.
