The Latino culture is a very diverse culture that consist of many types of Latinos. Unfortunately that is not reflective in mainstream media in the U.S and in several countries in Latin America . Many Latinas that are cast in shows and films are always the same in skin color, body shape, and accent. Many Latinas portrayed in the media we consume, are light skin women with the stereotypical body shape of a tiny waist with "curves in all the right places", often with a gifted chest and an accent. Society needs to know our Latino culture is so diverse. We have Black Latinos, Asian Latinos and indigenous Latinos all with different skin types and body shapes. The diversity we have in our culture is unique and beautiful. Latino music is also often tied to African culture. Due to this stereotype people also assume that everyone from Mexico or another country in South America only speak Spanish. Little do they know that Mexico alone consist of many different indigenous languages other than Spanish. Overlooking these important and unique aspects puts a hamper in accurately portraying Latinas in mainstream media. Often times these stereotypes can be hurtful and contribute to the inequality of Latinos everywhere. Hopefully mainstream media will be aware of the diversity and portray Latinas as they really are in films, television and media.
