Latinitas - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

Yesterday, I finally got to take my graduation pictures. I'm not much of a hair and makeup person. I just kinda threw some eyeliner on and straightened my hair. I thought about going to a salon and getting model-ready for my picture. I didn't because I wanted the girl in the picture to be all me, so I just trusted myself and got ready without help. This picture means a lot more to me than any other picture. It's me, wearing my cap and gown, announcing that graduation happened. I made it and my picture and diploma will prove it. This picture will also show me, a 22-year-old journalist proud of her four-year journey in UT.

I'm a grown up now, for real. I'm done with school (for now at least) and this is what I look like after four years. I don't think I've changed a lot, physically. But somehow, to me, I do think I look like an adult in this picture. I think it's mostly because of how I changed mentally, that I see myself as something more than that girl from Laredo, Texas.

I see myself as a young adult, getting ready to venture on out to the next thing.

It's silly to place so much emphasis on one picture... but this picture is going to be distributed among my family. This is what's going to make them proud of me. Most of my family is living in Mexico and they can't come to the U.S. Like my mom, they wouldn't be able to come to Austin for my graduation. This picture is the next best thing to that.

I'm graduating college, a first-year longhorn. I know they'll be happy for me and it'll show them how much I've grown up and how ready I am to start my own career.

My photo session only took around 15 minutes and I can't wait to post up a picture. My tassel and stole are crimson, the color for UT's College of Communication.

I'm a graduating journalist from the University of Texas at Austin.

Hook 'Em.

I can't wait 'til the Latinitas in here get to take their graduation pictures!
Where do you plan to go to college?
