Being a Latina has influenced basically my entire being. I am who I am because I strongly identify with my culture.
The Mexican culture has given me an outlook on life that I wish everyone shared. Mexican ideals point toward a humble view of life and stress the importance of hard work. That is exactly in what I strongly believe. I think everyone should be humble and modest. Don't get me wrong, I applaud confidence and I know and believe that everyone should be confident and secure with her or himself, but I think there is a very fine line between confidence and arrogance and many people tend to cross that line. One of my favorite quotes says, "Work in silence. Let success make the noise." YES. If what we're doing is truly as great as we think it is, we won't have to praise ourselves; other people will point out that we're doing good work. That's how I've always lived my life and I do believe it. I've had to work with people who talked the talked and filled everyone with the idea that they were wonderful hotshots, but when time came down to it, while they were talking about it, I was working about it. That's what matters.
My Mexican roots have shaped me into a person I'm proud to be. I love my roots, morals, and ideals and I have my culture (and my parents!) to thank for that.
