In the midst of the hectic life that I have, I try to squeeze in time to do some enjoyable things. On Tuesday, I checked out Pride and Prejudice (the movie) at the library. One of my absolutely favorite actors (Colin Firth) plays the main male character and I've been wanting to watch it for a long time. I fell in love with Firth during college. My roommate had the Diary of Bridget Jones movie and we decided to watch it. I loved the movie! And I loved Mark Darcy (Firth) in the movie. He was a sweet, sometimes awkward, human rights lawyer that is Jones's love interest.
The plot of the movie is very loosely based on Pride and Prejudice, where the main male character is also named Darcy. Bridget Jones, played by Renee Zellweger, is a single, clumsy, thirty something women with bad habits. She's just funny because to her awful first impressions and her embarrassing moments. Both movies were originally books and are based in England. I watched that movie a lot, to the point that my other roommate didn't want to watch it anymore. I found out recently that Zellweger, who has a great British accent during the movie, is actually from Texas and graduated from the same college I did, UT. Funny huh?
Well, back to the original Pride and Prejudice, I started watching it last night. The book was published in 1813 in Britain and is based around that time (one of the first chick flicks ever!). I had already watched the more recent movie with Keira Knightly and I loved the plot. It was amazingly good. I heard that the BBC version (the one with Colin Firth) stays truer to the book so I had been meaning to watch it. I started watching it last night, it's 5 hours long since it was a TV mini series for the BBC channel in England in 1995. I only watched the first 2 hours of it. So far, it's pretty good! I love how they talk in Old English. I wish I could talk like that. It sounds so much more elegant. lol. I'm pretty excited to continue watching it and see the events unfold. Elizabeth, a smart and witty girl is the main character in the movie and though she initially dislikes Mr. Darcy, they eventually fall for each other. I can't wait until I can squeeze some more time to continue watching it even if that means losing a little bit of sleep!
