Each year when I come back home for the holidays I am always surprised to see how much has changed in my city. New highways are being built, we are getting an awesome new shopping mall, a downtown stadium is in the works and new restaurants are sprouting up everywhere! Even though I am a person who doesn't always appreciate change I am actually very glad that the city of El Paso has decided to improve the city. It's about time! It gets very tiring hearing people complain about the city being boring and ugly! I try to ignore comments made by people who weren't born and raised in El Paso but I was especially enraged about the recent ignorant comments made about the city by several USC football players in town for the Sun Bowl. Hopefully these efforts to improve the city will allow visitors to quit complaining and appreciate much more than the warm hospitality and amazing Mexican food El Paso always offers.
This Thursday my friends and I decided to go see the Christmas tree and lights at the San Jacinto Plaza in downtown El Paso and I was pleasantly surprised. I remember going to see the lights a couple of years back and not being too impressed. However this year it seemed that they added more lights and even had Christmas music playing throughout the plaza to set the mood. I also read that the tree lighting this year included a parade and fireworks! Even though it was freezing outside, my friends and I really enjoyed our visit and I recommend that fellow El Pasoans also stop by and enjoy the lights. I'm very glad to see the city taking more initiative to make El Paso a more enjoyable place for everyone. Below are a couple of pictures from my visit. I hope everyone is having a safe and warm holiday season, I know I am!
