HSC is dedicated to removing barriers to higher education and empowering
youth for professional and personal success far beyond degree
attainment. HSC partners with its members and benefactors to jointly
award renewable financial assistance.
Award Amounts: $2,000 - $5,000 annually; potentially $8,000 - $20,000 over four years
*Scholarships may be renewed annually as long as the student earns a minimum 3.0
cumulative GPA, is enrolled on a full-time basis and is in good
standing with the organization
Personal & Professional Development: HSC Scholars participate in an annual leadership conference focused on
a variety of topics to seed philanthropy, nurture leadership potential,
engage creative thinking, network effectively and prepare now for
future careers.
Application Deadline: February 15, 2010
Minimum Requirements:
- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, college student, undergraduate
or graduate student planning to enroll in a two-year or four-year
college or university on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 hours a
semester) for the 2010 - 2011 academic year
- Applicant must reside in one of the following seven Central Texas counties:
Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Lee, Travis or Williamson
- Applicant must hold a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Applicant must be of Hispanic origin (mixed heritage and/or biracial students are eligible)
- Applicant must be a United States Citizen or a legal permanent resident with
permanent resident card or current passport stamped I-551
- If selected, the applicant must attend the 2010 HSC Scholar Leadership Conference slated for June 23 - June 25 in Austin, TX

Selection Criteria:
- Applicants are scored in each of the following areas: financial need, leadership,
community service, letter of recommendation and essay responses
- While financial need is one of the most important categories, it is not the sole criterion
- Personal interviews may be held upon request
Applicant must complete an online application at www.hispanicscholar.org on or before February 22, 2010. The application requires a resume, uploaded photograph and 2-3 essay responses.
- After completing the online application, the computer system will send an
email alert to the applicant's recommender of choice and he/she must
submit an electronic letter of recommendation on behalf of the student
on or before February 27, 2010
- Applicant must submit an official transcript to HSC by mail postmarked on or before February 22, 2010
- Applicant must submit either a copy of his/her parent/guardian's 2009 income
taxes with accompanying W2 forms or a copy of the applicant's Student
Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA to HSC by mail postmarked on or before
February 22, 2010
