When my grandma first got sick, she was sad because she wasn't able to go to Puerto Vallarta. She was sad because she couldn't go to the fiestas there so my grandpa said he would throw her her own fiesta and that's how it all started.
When my grandma passed away, it hit us all really hard. It's been 6 years now, but it's like we were just getting the call yesterday. We all miss her a ton but we know that she wouldn't want us to be sad, she'd want us to be happy and having fun, so that's what we do.
Every year we have a giant fiesta. There's lots of food, live music, raffles, and many people. When my grandma was still here it was a chance to have fun, now that she's gone, we still have the fiesta and we use the donations we get to put towards the Guadalupe Gomez Scholarship Fund. My grandma was very into everyone getting an education, so we started this scholarship once she passed.
This year, the girl who recieved the scholarship came to the fiesta. That was really cool. The fiesta was a ton of fun like always. A lot of work went into it, but it was all worth it in the end.
The whole week leading up to the big day was spent cleaning my grandfather's yard and everything. The day before we set up tents and we also went to Latino's Night at the Great Lakes Loon's Game, lots of fun there! When the big day came, we got up early to set up tables, chairs, and decorations. We cooked so much food it always amazes me! 5 o'clock rolled around and it was party time!!! We had a great turnout as usual. When it got dark, we lit lanterns off and we all got to write a message to my grandma on them. One of my dad's friends also did fireworks for us.
Every year the fiesta is a success. This year was no different. Even though my cousin and I were washing dishes pretty much the entire next day, everything was worth it. I love having the fiesta every year and I know that when the big day comes, my Grandma Lupe is smiling down at all of us from her place in the sky. I know that all she would want is for us to have fun and smile. She wouldn't want us to be sad because she's gone. I know that one day we will be reunited to throw another fiesta up in heaven and we will all be there with her.
That's all for today lovelies!! I hope you liked this post!! I will post pictures soon!!!!!
