Things are looking pretty grim in Venezuela right now. People have taken to the streets to protest the government and things have gotten pretty violent. Two people have been killed and the probability of more dying is high. What was supposed to be a peaceful, student-led protest has gotten out of hand and the armed forces and police forces have taken to attacking the students. The government is just further oppressing its people and denying their rights. This article basically tells you everything you need to know to catch up with what is happening in Venezuela.
I started reading In Cold Blood and that same day, my younger brother came home with a copy of it, too! Apparently he got it assigned for his Fundamentals of Law (or something) class. SO, we'll be reading it together! Basically, that's a long-winded way of telling you that I didn't read anything interesting this week. Sorry!
This week, I watched the movie Nowhere Boy featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The movie is about a young John Lennon and the relationship he had with his mother and his strict aunt. I don't know how accurate the portrayal of Lennon was, but assuming it was accurate, I didn't know he wasn't always the peace-loving man that I always picture! Anyway, the movie was lacking focus, so it wasn't excellent, but it was entertaining enough.
I figured I'd throw in a movie in here because I didn't suggest a movie last week, but really, I just want to talk about a new show I'm watching! It's called My Mad Fat Diary and it is great! There is only one season out right now and it consists of six episodes so it's super easy to catch up. It's about a young woman named Rae who just came out of a psychiatric ward where she was placed because she attempted suicide. The show follows her life as she deals with insecurities stemming from how she sees herself because of her weight. Although I sometimes think Rae is quite the negative drama queen, I can really identify with her and I loved watching her form new relationships. There's a particular character in the show that makes my heart soar and ahhhh.. This show just makes me feel every single feeling. AND it's a British show, so you know it has to be good.
Lately I have really been enjoying the song "Camillo (The Magician)" by Said the Whale. It's pretty upbeat and, I don't know, it gives me a happy vibe. Definitely check it out!
I have chosen to spotlight Gus Kenworthy. Gus Kenworthy is an American skier who just earned a silver medal in the men's slopestyle skiing competition. The US athletes swept the board and took home gold, silver, and bronze in this category! That, of course, is amazing and something to be praised. However, that is not why I want to feature this young man. Reports stated that many strays in Russia were getting killed to give off the illusion that they don't have a severe stray problem. Upon hearing this, Kenworthy took matters into his own hands by doing everything possible to adopt as many puppies possible. He tweeted the following pictures with the captions, "Oh my glob, look who I just found! :) #sochistrays" and "puppy love is real to puppies".

He later followed up by tweeting, "Also, for the people wondering, I've lined up kennels 4 the pups & made vaccination appointments. Doing everything I can to bring them home w/ me!" DOESN'T HE MAKE YOU FALL IN PUPPY LOVE?!
WAIT. Okay, I don't take it back that I'm featuring Gus over here, BUT I just changed my mind! I'd also like to feature Ellen Page this week! She made headlines on the night of Valentine's Day by admitting that she is gay, something that must have taken incredible courage. I think she's an inspiration to so many young women and men who are also struggling with keeping their sexuality hidden. She's incredible and her speech was beautiful and moving. I'm so proud of her for being so brave. You can find her speech here.

I've got a few jokes/puns for you gals this week! I'm already warning you that they probably won't be funny, but I find the dumbest things hilarious, so here we go!
I know, these were all hilarious.
I don't have one recipe in particular this week, but I did come across this site that gives links to different recipes/tutorials to make all kinds of ice cream without having to use a machine! Some of the delicious recipes include Dulce de Leche ice cream, Green Tea Coconut ice cream, and Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream. Check this website out!
This video was posted on the Latinitas Youth Editorial Board by one of the members and I think it's such a powerful video. It features three or four women who were "made over" and photographed by professionals to give them the illusion of being supermodels. To top it all off, their images were edited using Photoshop to remove any and every flaw. It's so sad to see that everything that makes each woman a unique individual is removed to create the illusion of perfection. Perfection is embracing who you are, not having that changed by a computer tool. Watch the video to see how the women reacted upon seeing their new images!
