LatinitasMagazine.org - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

Although I don't know these young ladies their story has effected me and I think many people can learn from the story of Evalynn Rose and Jeannette Lazaro. Both these girls were 21 and were killed in an accident on Thursday January 20th. Both these girls and a couple of their friends had gone out to celebrate Evelynn's birthday which was on Wednesday and they both died in a car accident on Thursday. To me their story not only shows us how quickly life can be taken away from us but that we should take drinking and driving more seriously. This case was different than the rest because both drivers in this accident were drinking. In most cases you hear of one of the drivers drinking but in this case both had been drinking before they decided to take the passengers in the car with them. Not many people think about the consequences that can come of drinking and driving and that the choices they make could potentially take someone elses life. Neither of the girls was the driver of the vehicle in fact, both girls were sitting in the backseat of the vehicle. Their friend who was driving was the one who had been drinking. As we grow up we hear about many stories of why we shouldn't drink and drive or get into a car with a drunk driver but a lot of the time we think "oh it can't happen to me". These girls were just 21 and I couldn't help to think how hurt a lot of my friends were that knew these girls. After I thought about my friends I then thought what must their families be thinking. This is obviously a hard time for everyone but I think it is a story that young people and adults can learn from. Even if you are of age or too young to drink, drinking and driving isn't worth the consequences of someone's life being taken away within seconds.

My respects go out to the family and friends of both these girls. I hope that they find peace and that this devistating accident has made a positive impact on the lives of their friends and family.

Its incredible to me how fast someone can be gone. I knew one of the girls she was an old co-worker of mine sad does not nearly cover how tragic this acciedent was. They will both be missed greatly and I can only hope that their story can help someone else from making a bad decision.

I think it is so scary how we can think that we are invincible and how this thought can lead to us to make bad decisions and put us in dangerous situations :( This tragic incident is a living proof that we in fact are far from invincibility and how a quick, unwise decision can bring such unrepairable damage.

It's pretty sad what happened. I have a few friends that were good friends with these girls and my brother went to school with them. They are all hurt about the accident. And it's really sad because their lives were just starting to flourish and it had to end so soon. I hope this unfortunate incident can shed light to the fact that drinking and driving is not okay. Not just because you might get arrested but because you are endangering people's lives!
