Affirmative action

Is there need for affirmative action? Yes, women continue to face inequality in the workplace. Currently, women earn 76% for every dollar a man makes. As a result, affirmative action is evidently needed to dispel this disconcerting issue which is taking place in today’s workplace.

The Lovely Bones

So, I've been reading this book called 'The lovely bones,' and though i havent finished it yet,

i do think it's probably the second greatest book i have read =D

I stronglyy think you should look into it,

It mixes horror with romance, mixes comedy with tragedy.

Though the story line is reallyy sad, i find it entralling =D

I don't want to spoil it or anything, but it is about a murder,

though it isn't a mystery.

Ohh! Also I just… Continue

Hot Topic! --Do you think there is still a need for affirmative action?

Yes, I think there is still need for affirmative action.

Even though the election of Obama is having to deal with this, it doesn't mean

that discrimination towards genders, races, and ethnicity is going to stop.

No, it isn't.

People can argue; affirmative action isn't equal.

In a way, those peope are right, how do you know a man is hired because of the qualities he

brings to a certain field? How do you know if he is hired by the colour of his skin?

You… Continue

Slumdog Millionare wins 8 Oscars.

I was very excited and thrilled When I saw the Oscars Sunday Night. It shows that independent films are vivid and not only the Box Office countdown with big celebs catch real life situations. I am very glad that now society is looking at films that really mean something, and I think the movie movie captured many eyes across America.

The Holocaust

Today at my school we had a woman named Sara Hauptman come in to our class and talked about the many struggles she went through during the Holocaust as a survivor. Her story was amazing and the courage she had was unbelievable! You could tell just by being in her presence she was brave and she also gave you this warm feeling but at the same time a strong one too. It was an incredible experience and I honestly reccomend you read her book. The title is The Lioness of Judah. I… Continue

Ask Congress to Confirm Only Latina Cabinet Member for Obama's Administration

I received the following info from the National Organization for Women today. We should all do our part to help get more strong voices for Latinas in high level government positions. These women will have the power to make important decisions that affect you and your family!

Your state's senators are key to the confirmation of a friend of women's rights and workplace equality as the new Secretary of Labor.

Hilda Solis, a Democratic Member of Congress from California… Continue

Proud of LBJ Latinitas and our fantastic program leaders

I am often astounded at the talent present in our after school program - future journalists, entrepreneurs and vetrenarians - and burgeoning role models. Two weeks ago, along with some outstanding Latinitas program leaders (Steph Meza, Ivy Bejarano and Vianey Luna) in Austin, a group of Latinitas from LBJ high school joined Breakthrough Austin to talk to their younger peers about the Road to College. While their peers slept soundly on a Saturday morning, Corina P. Erica M. and Ana J. spoke in… Continue

I Think it's good to have an african american president because it sets an example that it doesn't matter what race you are to do anything you wanna do. Also Martin Luther King Jr. predicted that in 25 years we would have an qafrican american president so look what happened 25 years later here is Obama. Maybe it will finally teach prejudice people that our skin color means nothing but how our attitude is.

If Race were Erased

I can't help but be overwhelmed by the exciting atmosphere in America today. I never thought I would see the day when a minority would become President of the United States of America. Many people feel that this is a triumph for Blacks, but I truly believe that this is a changing point in our entire generation. I am excited, not only our society, but for the societies of generations to come. Often times the word race is tacked onto stereotypical connotations. In past societies, race was the… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-If I were President

I honestly find the job of a president to be very hard. Mainly everything that happens to the nation depends on the president's choices. I understand that his job comes along with much pressure and for that same purpose can be very stressful. I think that if I were president I would immediately bring a change to the economy. I am not sure what is to be done to fix the economy, but i know that would need to be fixed immediately. I think I would also try to bring an end to the war. I feel that… Continue

Latinitas Noticias: Doodle 4 Google Contest

Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a competition where we invite K-12 students to play around with our homepage logo and see what new designs they come up with. This year we're inviting U.S. kids to join in the doodling fun, around the intriguing theme "What I Wish for the World."

These are exciting times and both our country and the world are on the brink of significant change. At Google we believe in thinking big, and dreaming big, and we can't think of anything more important than… Continue

So I’m going to start by introducing myself. My name is Mireydi Mendieta and I’m a junior at Connally high school and before that I attended St. Andrews. This blog is actually very late & I do apologize for that because I seem to have no time for anything. I am what you call a “very round student”. I’m involved in everything at school from science Olympiad to Asian culture club. I haven’t been very reliable with plans. Junior year in high school is like a sucking time machine, because you… Continue

Mexicarte Fieldtrip

The print that stood out for me the most was the one that had like a million faces. It was a face but inside it was so many faces that maid up that one face. It was really interested to see this particular print because you could see all the diffrent expressions that maid it up. Another print that catch my eyes was the one of a red dress and inside there was a women dress very provocative and around the dress there was faces but it was man faces. What i kind of got from this print was how a… Continue

If I were President for a day....

I would like to really live the typical day in the life of the president. From the moment he gets up, to eating breakfast, attending all of the meetings, and so on. It would be an opportunity to be in his shoes and see what he goes through on a daily basis. Problems like fixing the economy, and figuring out how to make health care available at a reasonable price for U.S. citizens is something that can't be fixed in a day, but I would give my imput to try to improve the situation. If it were… Continue
