Dream Act

I must admit, I didn't know that this bill existed, but I am glad that I do now. This seems like a great way for children to become a part of this country if they choose to. Some of these students don't know life anywhere else but here. This is their home. I would hate to be forced to move to a foreign country that I didn't really know much about.

It would also give the children a hope in the future when it comes to education and their careers. Whether they choose school or the… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-Dream Act

I do support the Dream Act. Many students as it is want to come to the U.S. to expand their knowledge and to meet with new opportunities. I believe that there are many students with great ideas and knowledge and that is something that should always be recognized in most countries, and if U.S. is lucky to be chosen by these students, than they should be accepted. These are immigrants who actually want to do something in life and who are wanting to attend college in U.S. where there are so many… Continue

The Dream Act...

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (The "DREAM Act") is a piece of proposed federal legislation that was introduced in the US Senate, and the US House of Representatives in March 26, 2009. This bill would provide certain immigrant students who graduate from US high schools, are of good moral character, arrived in the US as children, and have been in the country continuously for at least five years prior to the bill's enactment, the opportunity to earn conditional… Continue

Nuestra Tierra

This past week we celebrated our planets"annual birthday". Earth Day as we call it. Many people had many activities; such as learning new things we can do to make our world a better place, consuming less water, and electricity. or just enjoy a walk to the park. I celebrated Earth week by, planting flowers, consuming less energy, and recycled almost everything that came when it was time to throw away. Earth week has been celebrated my more people each year, and I hope it will continue.!

Earth Week- Latinitas Hot Topic

When I was a small child, my parents taught us how to tell what can be recycled. To this day, I am very careful about what I throw in the regular trash. I want to save all the soda cans when I am at other people's houses. The environment is an important issue, and I'm glad that the media and celebrities are starting to make noise about it. In addition to recycling, I try to conserve water and light. My mom brought home those new cloth grocery bags that you reuse. They are more environmental,… Continue

Earth Day

Well as you all know yesterday was the 31st celebration of our mother earth. I hope everyone did something to aware our community about the environment. Yesterday my school had an Earth Day Festival. Which went so well. But remember there is more you can do to give back to the Earth. It doesn't have to be on Earth Day. Plant a tree, instead of throwing a filled water bottle away, feed some plants and recycle the plastic bottle. Pick up pieces of trash you see on the floor. Mother… Continue

Hey everyone!! Earth Week is such a great time to celebrate how wonderful our environment is and to emphasize the important of taking care of it! To celebrate, I made a greater effort to ride the bus, did not use my air conditioning, and went out of my way to recycle EVERYTHING I could! This is the only Earth we have and without recognizing the effects of humans on the environment we will surely destroy it; which is why Earth Week is so wonderful! We should make efforts to do things like… Continue

Earth week!!

Recently I've become more aware of our environment and what we can do to preserve it. I encourage my family to recycle and I'm in charge of taking out the recycling bin at my house. A few weeks ago we had a Student Leadership Conference at UTEP and as a gift we received a bag with the recycling logo with a Miner Pick in the middle. I have found it useful to carry my things during those days I don't take many books to school. A lot of students have told me they like it and it's a good way of… Continue

Latinitas-Hot Topic-Honoring Selena

Over ten years have passed since Selena passed away, but her memory is still very vivid today through her music. She is a great success story that unfortunately ended tragically, but her music is still very much alive. I still like to listen and dance to some of her songs. I don't think her music will ever stop playing, or that it will ever stop touching people's hearts in some way. The fact that there is a movie about her says a lot about her. Her life story was so much like a movie that it… Continue

When I moved to El Paso in July of 1995 from Veracruz, MX I heard of her tragic death and began listening to her music. I unfortunately didn't know who she was until after she was murdered but I am sure that if she was still alive today she would continue to enlighten us with her music. I admire her determination to learn Spanish, which she did, and make it in the entertainment business.

Jessica Simpson

Negative imagery towards pop star Jessica Simpson's weight gain has gained massive media attention. With headlines such as “Jessica at her worst” I find to be quite appalling. With this topic in the spotlight many argue that it is damaging for the youth, for they are presented that being "not" skinny one will be mocked at. What I found to be shocking was that this topic was stressed and seemed as a disconcerting issue on “CNN.” My best advice for young girls is to not fall into the extreme… Continue

When I was growing up, I was like most kids since I rarely liked music my parents listened to. Except when it came to Selena. I loved her music. It was lively and fun, and even when I didn't understand her lyrics (Spanish has always been harder for me), I loved how her music sounded. I also liked that she was Mexican-American like me. She was able to show both sides of her culture. I think its important for young people to see role models like that.

Reading the post about her life, I… Continue
