With the 4th of July quickly approaching, fun events with family and friends are sure to make up almost everyones three day weekend. I am incredibly excited, because this weekend we will be having a family reunion, which I am sure will hold MANY unforgettable stories. My mom's sister and her family are driving down today from Dallas, and I am so excited to see them, they always keep me laughing and my cousins from…

Before coming to Latinitas today I had an orthadontist apointment, and while the doctor was probing his fingers inside my mouth I couldn't help but think that I've actually had my braces for about two years now. I remember when I first got them I had a horrible lisp, slurring my "S"s and "R"s and I hated having to get used to learning how to eat differently.
Of course, with time you get used to your braces and so does everyone else around you. When I first got them,…

Last night my guy friend dragged me (literally) to the premier of Transformers 3 at midnight. I was hesitant to go not only because I have no interest in fighting robots, but because of how packed the movies get on premier night. Of course we had to wait in a ridiculously long line for an hour. Waiting was not what bothered me though, it was what happened in the line that upset me.
While standing in the line with my friend, a group of girls I went to high school with came to say…

I recently read an article on CNN.com called "What is beauty and who has it?" http://www.cnn.com/2011/LIVING/06/29/global.beauty.culture/index.html?hpt=hp_c2
As I read the article I found it to be very interesting. The article asks, "Can beauty be defined by age, gender, color, body shape or size." And it seems that the definition of beauty is changing constantly,…

My mom sent me an e-mail today and there was a phrase that I liked a lot and wanted to share with you!
I feel like we have to follow it, because we all make the mistake of keeping resentment, desiring that something bad happens to that person, or actually hurting the same one....

So I’m not ordinary when it comes to what most people have in their description of being a girl. I am a girl who likes baseball and I play softball through the city and have been playing since I was 4 years old. It is a part of who I am.
It’s only natural for me that while I am on Yahoo! and see on the main page the different news story change…

This weekend was awesome! I went to Del Corazon Film Festival. It was amazing they projected the films off of one of the
buildings in downtown El Paso. We watched around 10 short films made by local El Paso and Ciudad Juarez artists. All focused on…

I reciently became a yearbook editor for my school and, although I have been on the yearbook staff in the previous years, I've learned that there is SO much work that has to be put into the book of the year! I've never been an editor. In my sophomore year I was a photographer but that's all I did- take pictures and turn them in. I did work on one page but that was a group project, and because I didn't know how to use InDesign and my friend did, she did most of the work. But now, after two…

Last week I came across something on Twitter that really upset me at first. A guy friend of mine retweeted a post from a friend of his saying, "What's up with girls thinking they live in the Notebook. Grow up.". What upset me about this, is first off I LOVE the Notebook, and second what is so wrong with us girls wanting such a beautiful, timeless love like the one portrayed by Noah and Allie?
Then I began to wonder, are we really expecting too much when it comes to guys? We are a…

So today I had to say goodbye to one person that almost meant the world to me... (NOTE i said ALMOST).
I thought it would be harder, yes it hurts, but I thought I wouldn't be able to hold in anything! I guess it
was just the fact that we had a…

This past weekend I got into a small fight with my mom over a silly and pointless thing. I was frustrated and mad at her, as I am sure she was frustrated with me. I didn't even want to see her and avoided talking to her all day, which is rare since my mom and I are really close. As the evening approached I realized how could I have been so mad at her for something so unimportant. I immediately apologized for acting the way I did and she apologized to me, even though she…

It has been awhile since I have last done a blog. I just thought I would use this entry to wish my parents a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. They have been married 32 years. Through the fights and arguments they always end the night was a kiss and never sleep apart from each other. To know that they have been together through it all is what makes me believe that there is truly someone for everyone. My mom told me that she always liked my dad, just wasn't sure she truly loved him when they got married.…

Over the past ten years or so, social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, & Myspace have come to dominate the internet with thousands of Facebook and Twitter accounts popping up daily. However, I recently read that Myspace has been sold & is most likely going to be shut down, as very few people use Myspace today. So that got me to thinking. Myspace was extremely popular when I was in middle school & the beginning of my freshman year in high school, but it has quickly fallen as…

Every year I am so proud of the interesting and diverse group of girls and teens who come together for our summer camp series in Central Texas (not to be confused with our awesome West Texas camps) from as nearby as downtown Austin and as far away as the Rio Grande Valley. This week was no exception. Girls came into camp nervous and quiet and are leaving expressing their points of view about art, media, friendships and even more high-brow topics such as politics and feelings! Our media…

Have I mentioned I was a big time feminist? IT might sound weird and extreme, but I was. Regarding guys I was a horrible person, I wouldn’t let anyone in my life, and as soon as something would get serious I would run away. There had been times when I couldn’t believe how much insecurity I had accumulated inside me. The truth it wasn’t my fault since I didn’t; wanted to break away from my fear of getting hurt and I had rather decided to juts close myself to any kind of feelings. I had broken…

Today I didn't really have an idea what to write about so I read a couple of my fellow Latinitas' blogs for ideas. I read Dominique Gonzalez's "The Backyard Virgin" and it was really good! She talked about the sighting of the Virgin Mary in an east El Paso home and she added a link at the bottom of the page of KDBC's coverage on the story. After watching the video provided I was amazed! It really does look like the…
