But what exactly IS character?

According to whatwillmatter.com, it is "a morally neutral term describing the nature of a person in terms of major qualities." How you acquire these qualities depends on how you deal with…

Father's Day

Of course, this is a girl’s space, but it is also Father’s Day, so let’s take this time to talk about dads...not just dads though, how ‘bout any wise male figures in our lives who have impacted our lives for the better. Maybe he is someone who is always there to make you laugh when you need it most. Maybe he is not the best listener but will always try to hear you out. Maybe he is that person who had faith in you even when you didn’t have faith in yourself. No matter what’s…

Ironic Complaint

I've come to realize that as a generation we complain so much! We complain about the weather being too hot or too cold, even about WiFi signal being too low! From paper cuts, slow drivers and even about a bird pooping on your windshield. The list of everyday complaints goes on and on...and honestly we complain about things we CAN'T control. Probably because we can't control them. Most of the time it causes a ripple of complaints from one person to the next like a contagious virus. Go ahead and… Continue

#awsomelatina

I recently began working at a title company as a receptionist as a summer job and everything has been great and everyone is quite nice. Yet, I could not help but notice that this building is dominated by women! From women in the front office to the president of the branch. Even one of the office "runners"(usually a male dominated position) is a female who has 3 children and works a full time job and a part time job. Not only does she work she wakes up at 4 in the morning to go to the gym. To… Continue

El Amor Que Merecemos

Polvo de bruja's photo.

Mereces un amor que te haga sentir segura, que pueda comerse al mundo si camina de tu mano, que…

How Playing a Sport Changed My Outlook on Life

I have played women's rugby for the past two years in college and it has changed my life for the better. Although rugby is a really popular sport in countries such as England and New Zealand, many people in the U.S. still aren't quite sure what it is. I'll try to briefly define it: rugby is a sport in which two opposing teams that each have 15 players have to try to get the ball down the field to score points. It is a tackling sport with no padding, and the ball looks like but is slightly…

Happy National Best Friends Day!

Today is National Best Friends Day, and so I thought what better way to honor friendship than take a moment to remember what I consider to be one of the best films about Latina friendship from the 2000s - Disney Channel's Gotta Kick It Up! This made-for-TV movie is about a group of friends who participate in a dance/cheer team, and look to friendship, support, and teamwork to become successful dancers and overcome other life obstacles. What I also just recently found out is that…

"Looks aren't everything. Believe me, I'm a model."

I'm a really strong advocate for TED talks on TED.com/talks, for nearly every talk they post can motivate, inspire, or inform you in ways no other website can. I've lost track as to how many talks I've actually seen, but this one talk (among with countess others) stood out the most to me. It's told by a model, who talks about what it's like to be in the business, and sheds light on the not-so-beautiful aspects of modelling.…

After School Program Experience

During spring semester I did an after school program at Guillen Middle School, here at El Paso. At first I was really nervious because I had never had the opportunity of being with middle schoolers and because I understand that is a tough age I was not sure the way I could handle them. I would go on Tuesdays at 3 and we had different activities to do and than I would here them at our…
