Life has its ups and downs. It's a roller coaster of emotions. When the turn is too sharp or when there is one too many loops, it can just be too much to handle.
I feel as if I have experienced every possible emotion in…

Dear Mayra,
You are a strong and pretty person. Believe in yourself and be yourself. You are beautiful from your face, even though you have braces and glasses. However, your teeth are going to be the envy of everybody else. Your eyes are brown and really pretty. Your hair is also pretty because of the color brown and because it is long. I love how you sing in the church on Sunday. I also love how you are so creative and have a good imagination. You eyelashes are really big and pretty.…

Teen pregnancy is a big topic. Huge. Mostly because no women is unattached to the topic. I have friends and family who were teen moms and, as a teen, I had to make choices about my body with very little help from my school, family, or community.
Myths about teen moms…

The name itself - facebook - tells us something about this site that now has over a billion users (fun fact: if facebook was a country, it would have a bigger population than the United States). The word "face" lets us know that this site emphasizes the users' "faces" and their physical, superficial appearance. The word "book" is where it gets interesting. Book are usually long and hard to appreciated unless you read the…

Whether you just graduated from high school (congratulations) or from college (a thousand congratulations) or even graduate school (a hundred thousand million congratulations!), the pressure to find a practical and financially secure job is on.
My older sister, Rebecca, just graduated from college with a degree in Media and Cultural Studies and in…

So as an intern with Latinitas, I signed up to do some extra activities with the organization. I decided to help out with the Quince Project we're doing, which is throwing a quinceañera for deserving girls. This July 27th (yesterday) we had a fundraiser in collaboration with an Applebee's in our city. We were selling meal tickets before the big day for $5 so people could come in the morning and get a yummy breakfast (and help our our great organization)
For the big meal…
ContinueJust a blog on how I feel with my family. Somewhat.
Yes, I've been through a lot with them, they've made me doubt my self, but they have also made me stronger. Our family is strange I must admit. I don't like to go to personal but lets just say, with this one situation, I wouldn't know how to react to my mom or my dad hugging me, yes, I know how they might express that they are proud of me:

So earlier this week, I came across the song "Same Love" by Macklemore (a hip hop artist), and producer Ryan Lewis, featuring Mary Lambert. It compelled me so much that I had to write about it.
The song opens with a chorus harmonizing as a clarinet gently plays a single note. After a few measures of the chorus/clarinet duo a bright yet modest piano comes in with a simple melody and adds texture to the introduction. Then some chimes come in to add even more brightness…

In June I drove down two hours away from home to San Jose for a journalism program. I spent two weeks there, in what helped me understand the meaning of print journalism.

Ideas here, ideas there... Oh what to write about!
Should I.... Oh no!
Here it goes. How many of you have supposedly, apparently or just according to you fallen in this thing called "love"?
I used to think relationships were made for weak people. For me a man was a waste of time, my favorite phrase was this: "Who needs a man, they are a waste of time!" I always wanted to shut my ears every time I heard my sisters and friends talk about their silly relationships, and of…

The other day, I went with my dad – my six foot tall, white, pretty loud, incredibly compassionate dad – to Whataburger, my favorite eatery in all of the land.
We go up to order and I immediately hear laughing, snickering, and low-volume shouting across a couple of booths. It just happens that four loud boys/men are eating in this particular…

Part 1: Rain
It is currently raining as I write this. El Paso has seen almost a week of lots of rain in this usually very thirsty desert-mountain city. Rain makes El Paso not feel like El Paso to me. The joke is that nobody can remember how to drive when it rains here. That it rains just enough to get everyone's cars to get dirty.
Part 2: Josh Groban
I like to listen to Josh Groban when it rains because his voice is almost as dramatic as having any kind of…

I have to be honest ladies.
I hate my mother, my foster mother.
I don't think I could say something like, "my mother taught me..." because in all sincerity I feel like I learned nothing from her. If I go into specifics about her, well let's just say, it won't look too good.
Really, honest. I just feel like she's taught me all with negativity. I learned from her mistakes, to be honest. There, it's said. My mother taught me life lessons not otherwise simple for a young gal…

I'm just going to vent. Writing has become this big issue for me. I love writing and it used to be a simple task that I was not afraid of or had to actively think about. However, I am still at alert. I want to make sure that all my writing makes sense but I also have so much to say and so many words to say it in.
I continue to write things that don't entirely make sense or aren't as detailed. This means that some people haven't done their job right and taught me well. I'm a…

I'm a happy person, naturally. I don't feel that I must know someone in order to smile at them. I am the type of person that will smile at a stranger if we have made eye contact. I feel that it is only the appropriate thing to do. By the same token, if and when a stranger smiles at me, I smile back. So, when I smile at a stranger after eye contact has been made, and the stranger does not smile back I am shocked and feel that was very rude on their part. I believe it would be just as…
