I am changing my style to make my boyfriend happy...

I just heard that Kanye West is planning to design Kim's weeding dress, and to be honest I do not know if it is something sweet about him, or if it something way to creepy. As many of you know, Kim also let Kanye to change her entire wardrobe. In my opinion, I wouldn't let my boyfriend to change my style, that is why I have my friends, sisters, and my mom to tell me that my taste in style is awfully wrong, and I need to change my entire wardrobe. ( Luckily, no one has told me that my style is…

What is the American dream?

Growing up I’m sure that most of us have heard about the “American Dream”. But what really is the American dream? What is the difference between our grandparent’s view and our view of the American dream? How does everybody describe the American Dream? Allow me to give you an example; I describe the American Dream as, people having the right to whatever they want whenever they want without being judged. However, someone else could describe it as something completely different. This…

Women of a thousand faces

I sit down at this table

eating nothing, thinking too much.

It's so hard being an adult.

Everyone's old talk about post graduates struggling to find that one job to sustain them became all the more real.

Just this past month and the months before I've been on a hunt for a job that suits me, something that allows me to pay off my monthly loans and do the entire writing thing on the side, but I must admit now, that the struggle is real.

A recent report has…

I'm a very symbolic person. I always try to find meaning in things and I guess it's my way of motivating myself to keep pushing forward. I never really stick with the same "symbol" for too long, though. Whether it's a quote, a picture or an object, I always find a new one after about 2 weeks or so but this one is different.

This past summer, somehow, I stumbled across a picture of a lion. I remember looking at it for a while and getting this immediate burst of inspiration. I wrote for…

Austin Film Fetival

This weekend I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Austin film festival and It was a blast . Day one consisted of making the film passes and badges while walking out and handing it to the directors and producers themselves. I arrived to the Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin (the venue where I was stationed) and the commotion was incredible. People everywhere, photographers and reporters walking up and down the stairs, and the crowd of people waiting to get into the film area. It was…

A Halloween Costume Gone Too Far

You can never be too rich or too thin.

The previous phrase is the current tagline for the controversial "Anna Rexia" Halloween costume.

To those of who who haven't seen this costume this is what it looks like:

As you can see, it comes with a skeleton mini-dress, a choker neckband, measuring tape belt and a "Anna Rexia" badge. This outfit…

Austin Film Festival

Yes, it's that time of the year again. No, not Christmas time... It's time to go watch movies!

The Austin Film Festival has kicked off in Austin! For those of you who don't know much about the festival, all you know need to know is that this festival is the first to focus entirely on writers, rather than filmmakers.

AFF consists of two parts--a conference, which features a series of panelists; and a festival, which showcases never-before seen movies.  More than 180 films are…

Favorite Traditions/Tradiciones Favoritas

While I drive...

While I drive...

I think about my day, the traffic, my driver's side lock that is broken which forces me to open my door from the passenger side every single time, my parent's out of state, my homework, my life...

I think of the frivolous things that stress me out while I spend my time driving to and from school, to home, to put gas, to everywhere, and I wonder something that I rarely had thought about before...

I cross into downtown from campus and see weary bodies…

As the semester comes to its midpoint...papers, tests and assignments begin to pile up. For me, it's really hard to pull all nighters. I'm the type of person who functions way better during the day but inevitably, there are times when I have no choice but to stay up way past my bed time to complete important assignments. I've tried a bunch of different things as far as caffeine goes but nothing ever really seemed to work for me. Hot coffee, weirdly enough, would actually make me sleepy…

Happiness is Hard Work!

Growing up, mi mama would always tell me that only I can make myself happy. She would say "to be sad and upset is easy. To be happy is very constant, hard work." As a teenager prone to drama and mood swings, I was not always particularly good at following her advice. Break-ups were epic sagas deserving of an original Lifetime movie script, friendship troubles were greek tragedies, and school was a torture chamber. I could…

Latina in DC-1

This semester has been an absolute whirlwind. It seems like only yesterday I received the email telling me that I'd been accepted into the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's fall internship program. Now, I feel like a part of DC. I feel like a changed young woman. President Barack Obama said it best, "Change comes to Washington," and coming here has changed me.

I look around and see a lack of not only female representation, but also the lack of Latin@s around these parts. It…

Latina Identity Summit

On Saturday October 19th I volunteered at the Wise Latina International Identity Summit in El Paso, Texas. This event invited local Latina's interested in discussing the issues with identity, and took place at the Downtown Public Library. The main questions posed in this summit were: Who are we? What does it mean to be Latina? The event consisted of speakers from the Wise Latina International group after which they would break into groups and discuss these questions about identity. I…

I love my costume, but why my skirt has to be too short?

Halloween is around the corner, and it happens to be one of my favorite holidays that the reason why is because I like to wear costumes. It is the time of the year where you watch all kind of scary movies, and go trick or treating, because is never old enough to get candy. For this holiday, girls I know how our costumes look like, but honestly, why are most of our costumes have to be just below our butt? For me is kind of uncomfortable to be walking around and showing more than I am supposed…

A dead fetus was found in the Victoria's Secret bag of Hispanic girl, Tiona Rodriguez,  17 as she allegedly stole from the store. Security stopped her upon realizing that a foul odor came from the bags she was holding.
