Quit Complaining and Enjoy The Lights

Each year when I come back home for the holidays I am always surprised to see how much has changed in my city. New highways are being built, we are getting an awesome new shopping mall, a downtown stadium is in the works and new restaurants are sprouting up everywhere! Even though I am a person who doesn't always appreciate change I am actually very glad that the city of El Paso has decided to improve the city. It's about time! It gets very tiring hearing people complain about the city being…

Fall's winter messenger.

They come each year with the cool breeze;

cover up buttercup don't let your bones get the best of you.

Thick, robust bodies, covered up in Deaths cloak. Piercing, ice cold eyes;

you'll miss them blink.

 No other being on sight, brave souls they are;

Death is teeming here.

Protected by monotone quills;

Just watch one fall gently with the…

New Year's Eve?!

Is it really the end of the year? Where did the time go? Well all these questions flow in our minds. The truth is that we found ourselves being more caught out in the preparations for the celebration of the New Year's Even than thinking what was good and the bad for this year, or if we should be grateful for what happened or didn't happened during these 12 months. We as Latinos need to be as together as we can get, so our DREAMS as a community can come true, and the plans we have for the…

Kinda Latina Christmas

Despite the deluge of commercials outlining a two-parent, two-child household, for majority of us, Christmas is a ramshackle experience of other kinds of loved ones and, in some cases, avoidance of family stress.  Though we all might share the experience of catching 30 minutes increments of the repeatedly shown TBS's "A Christmas Story," what our families look like is as distinct as a fingerprint.  My Noche Buena was with close friends and their parents from Monterrey, Mexico. Despite…

Fool's day in December

December 28th it is known to many Spanish-Catholic descendants as “El Dia de los Santos Inocentes.” To a lot of young ones that do not know the history behind it, it is the Hispanic April Fool’s Day, or the day to pull pranks on friends and family.

The pranks on this day range from very innocent jokes, like switching the salt for the pepper to very cruel and unexpected pranks. Usually, when the victim falls for the prank, the joker tells the victim “inocente palomita te dejaste…

2013 is almost here!

As 2012 is walking out the door, 2013 is coming right in. Although 2012, was filled with many good times and will forever hold great memories, the promise of a new year is always very exciting. I hope that 2013 is filled with more cheer and good times than 2012.

Love yourself Letters- Webber Club

What is the characteristic you love most about yourself? Our girls from the Webber Club at El Paso, TX worked on a journal entry about this.In it, they had to write a letter to themselves saying why they are beautiful.This is what some of our girls wrote:

Dear Pilar,

 You are the most intelligent girl I've ever met and you have a wonderful smile.Your eyes are as bright as the stars in the sky.You are the most beautiful girl I've ever met with the longest hair.You are…

Getting ready for College

As a high school senior, I am preparing for the next big step called "Real Life" hence, College.

I have been preparing for this all throughout high school by taking advanced classes and dual credit classes. Also by getting involved in as many activities as possible in the community. Commuinty and volunteer services are something colleges always keep in mind when it comes to admissions.  Having your future in mind always will help you keep your eye on the prize no matter what. I have…

Soccer season has started and it is only in Texas that the season goes on during the harsh winter months. The bipolar El Paso weather keeps me guessing what the weather will like in the next thirty minutes. In my soccer bag,

I always carry gloves, earmuffs, hoodies, and a beanie....I never know what to wear, so might as well be prepared.

The soccer season is a total of three months and I am very excited because our first game is already on the 29th of December. This leaves no…

Spiritual Switchup

     About two years ago, I took a class at UTEP called Major World Religions where, as the title suggests, we explored the different religions people practice all over the world. One of the requirements of the class was to visit two religious services other than that of our own. Mine being Catholic by default/experience, I chose to go to a Jewish and Buddhist service and found I was especially glad I chose the Buddhist one. I love the teaching of the Buddha, but was unsure about what to…

If I was prisdent i would..........

Every thing would change if I was president. School hours would change. I would make a class a one hour and thirty min so kids can  just  chill out and  be free to get their phone out . So then  after wards they can listen to what the teacher  says so they won't have to talk and pass notes in class and talk  while the teacher  is trying to talk and so they can give the…

Little angels

Lord,  I know that your children  are there with you right now , they have turned into angels and are now watching over us.

Lord why do these sort of things have to happen? That is what I ask my self.

Little lives taken :(.. It is depressing to know that the girl who had dreams of becoming a princess or they boy who had dreams of being a basketball player are not even here..

Those kids could of helped change our world for the best <3 but now they are little angels who…

I want my mommy

So I have a super strong imunne system. okay not really, my immune system is pretty bad. But it's not because I don't take care of myself. It's because I have a blood condition. But I have NEVER been sick the way I've been sick this week.

It's really bad but it started of normal, some coughing and a runny nose. Then the soreness came in, then the headaches. Then it all hit me, the congestion, the chest pains, I lost my voice and i started coughing a little bit of…

Ct shooting

Right now I'm crying. Who would ever kill little kindergarteners. Even if you were mad at your mom why torment kids. I am now officially scared to go o school. 20 kids and 6 adults were killed. Plus the shooter. R.I.P. to little kindergarteners. Pray for them and always keep them in your mind.
