Adult Acne

Why does acne appear as you head into your mid-twenties?

It not only makes me feel bad about myself, but it is infuriating.

I never dealt with acne, pimples, scars on my face as a teen, luckily.

I know it has to do with what I put into my body....but why does it have to happen when an important event is about to happen?

I drink water....and loads of coffee. There, that is my problem. The coffee is killing my baby face D:!!!

It…

RIP Elias Galvan

I literally just received the news that my sister's boyfriend of 4 years has passed away. A part from the mind numbing and shaking I cant quite believe that the news is real.

For the most part, I always had a the impression that he was trying to control my little sister on the other, my sister sort of controlled everything he did.

I am shaking and I can't quite grasp that he is gone.

My sister and him were going to get married. They were going to have…

Selena is still alive

While yound adults my age are listening to hit singles from Pitbull and JLo, I am going back to my Texas roots and jamming Selena.

Selena is a Mexican-American second generation chicana singer who made the impact of coming in the 90s with her ritmo musica and sweeping Hispanics off their feet. I mean, could you blame her?

Her rhythm and her beautiful voice was and is a catastrophic change compared to singers you listen to today. Her music was not filled with voice recordings,…

Something's in the way...

Learn to love yourself first, instead of the idea of other people loving you. I don’t know about the rest of you chicas, but as a teenager, I needed to be validated by other.  Sometimes day without a hair compliment would make me go  numb with disappointment. I needed to hear the magic words to push through the day. Why is this so, though?

Even now I don’t see a lot of young girls approaching this self serving self esteem outright as I did. Does anyone else recall, “I look so dumb in…

American Latina, Latina Feminist, Latina Pageant, Latina blah blah blah

I dislike terms that generate boundaries. No doubt, I am very proud of being latina and wouldn’t be imbarrassed to say that I am, but when I see American magazines trying to quarter minority magazines with word use such as Latina, American, or descriptive terms like “sizzling” to describe  outter beauty of any race or ethinicity, it becomes irritating. Not because it sets a…

That red

Lately I see a lot of girls wearing red lip stick.

There's no problem with artist/fashion expression, yet I find it fad like. So much so that many of these teens are even give the "sullen expression" to express pain? ache? or even comtempt?

Whatever the case why has this fad embodied the young crowd?

I swear, and i hardly ever, that these young girls look better without the gunk on their face.

On the way home from work, I spotted two girls, at about the same age.…

I'm not "pretty" and "beautiful"

says NO LATINA.

Grown women, between the ages of 18 and 25 who happen to be Latinas had the same game to do as some of our younger Latinitas did late last week.

Perhaps because they understand the concept of being YOURSELF as highly probable to being happy, they easily  described themselves in self affirming words.

Gina Linn Espinoza wanted to create a paragraph, but was able to narrow it down to a list to best fit…

My best friend slobbered on the phone for me :D

I miss my best friend. My friend is so cute.

He's white with a black spot over his left eye. Gosh, darnit he's sssoo adorable.

The other day I was in need of being reassured that he still remembered me. I asked my brother, David if he'd call him closer to the phone, to which he did. I could hear his call out to my puppy, "boy! Snoopy come here boy!"

:D My little nugget of a dog is so adorable.

Next thing I hear is a loud breathing that nearly air knocked me out my…

My Parents are in the military, for what?

I was gone, but now I am found.

I've been away ladies and I hope to be back in no time. For now, the library seems like the perfect place to reside during hrs. of unemployment (but actively persuing) and going hungry.

I talked to several young Latinas about their loved ones who happen to be in the military, but have no idea how to get their emotions on tract regarding the entire situation.

So here goes, I painted a picture for the start of this because…

Women of a thousand faces

I sit down at this table

eating nothing, thinking too much.

It's so hard being an adult.

Everyone's old talk about post graduates struggling to find that one job to sustain them became all the more real.

Just this past month and the months before I've been on a hunt for a job that suits me, something that allows me to pay off my monthly loans and do the entire writing thing on the side, but I must admit now, that the struggle is real.

A recent report has…

Victoria's Secret? A dead baby being lugged around store

A dead fetus was found in the Victoria's Secret bag of Hispanic girl, Tiona Rodriguez,  17 as she allegedly stole from the store. Security stopped her upon realizing that a foul odor came from the bags she was holding.

After looking for stolen goods he found a dead baby boy in the bag. According to a primary source, she miscarried at six months and…

i DON'T WANT TO BE ANOTHER FATTY

So I haven't been on here lately.

I moved out of Texas and decided that California was right for me.

I love it all. The palm trees, the good looking people and most especially my cousins for making me feel as though I were a part of their family from the start.

The thing is...well, don't get me wrong. i love them all sincerely, but I noticed that all their family time is spent at one of the three cousin's house fixin' grub and chowing down.

I don't hate those…

Deciphering Lyrics

We've all been there. We're guests of our abuelas, tias, tios, sister or brothers friend's party.

Some of show enthusiam with head bopping and shake hipping moves. We are letting free and by golly I am one to Shakira's "my hips don't lie" all in the name of not being called a prude.

You even begin to sing to the countless top 40 music blaring out the speakers, when suddenly you realize what it is that you are actually singing.

"Cheers to the freakin' weekend...don't let…

Rock music is not at all ABOUT wanting them Benjamins, ha

My music taste has shifted. I can't listen to rock music without feelings of sadness. Don't get me wrong, I grew up with rock music all my life. I liked it, loved it or so I thought.

So here it goes:

I was sitting in my corner of the house, jamming out to My Chemical Romance, they were a favorite of mine at the age of thirteen, when I suddenly found myself actually singing along to lyrics that go a little something like this: "I'm not okay...You wear me out." It's song about a…

Ariel Castro found dead in jail cell

I find Ariel Castros suicide traumatizing. He was pronouced dead late last night an hour after guards checked in on him.

Ariel fathered a child with Amanda Berry, one of three girls he abducted years ago.  Family and friends did not think that Castro could ever be guilty of these things when really how many of us can say we know our neighbors or even our very  own family to the full extent. He had the nerve to tell the court that, "much of the sex was consensual." These words hit me…

That Girl

I used to know a girl

who stared on to the ground.

A sad looking brunette with

Hair that went all the way down

Past her back…trailing her waist.

Her brown locks billowed at every turn of

The pages of the book she kept beneath her slumped neck.

I felt sorry,

Indeed I did

Until I realized…

Miley Cyrus song of the summer has me F*$@> Fancied...NOT.

So I was jammin' out to music as I walked home from a long day with a stroll down the neighborhood, with myself of course. No life?

har har

I had my first encounter with MILEY CYRUS' NEW SONG, "We Can't Stop" and i was beyond confused.

Not because she's growing up and leaving Disney channel behind and in doing so has done everything to take that good girl image out.

I get it, I get it, she's hip and that hair is pretty pimp, but seriously, those sexual innuendos…

Green GO

I made a friend while in college. Her name is Gris and she is from Mexico.

I recall a white girl commenting on being a "gringa(o)." The way she explained it though made the history behind that explanation seem so wrong.

She explained it in this way, "I know what Gringo means. It means a white cracker."

That is when Gris stepped in and proudly explains the meaning behind such word. She said, "Let me tell you. Gringo is a derivative of the words "green" and "go." When the…

How I Learned to Hate My Subscription to 'Seventeen'

It's easy really, to hate a magazine for what it is promoting.

In a recent issue of Seventeen magazine, I was thrilled, Ariana Grande(oooh Hispanic power) was on the cover, BUT the content inside was very contradictory.

When I was younger,I could enjoy the "horror stories" and "health stories" that they were promoting. This is because they were entertaining and informative.

At the start of the year 2005, things shifted.

Celebrity interviews are now written in a…

My mother taught me

I have to be honest ladies.

I hate my mother, my foster mother.

I don't think I could say something like, "my mother taught me..." because in all sincerity I feel like I learned nothing from her. If I go into specifics about her, well let's just say, it won't look too good.

Really, honest. I just feel like she's taught me all with negativity. I learned from her mistakes, to be honest. There, it's said. My mother taught me life lessons not otherwise simple for a young gal…
