The New Trend in Movies: Making a Movie Based on a Book

There is a growing trend in the movie industry, which is to make a movie based on a book. Some recent movies that have followed this trend include Twilight; New Moon; Eclipse; Harry Potter; Eat, Pray Love; Dear John; The Chronicles of Narnia; The Last Song; among many others. These movies have had a great acceptance from the general public. However, they have not been widely acclaimed by most fans of the book. I can say that I enjoy watching the movies but I rather read the…

Susan G. Komen for the Cure

October is considered breast cancer awareness month. Many rallies and fundraisers are held throughout the month to help put an end to breast cancer. During these events, people wear pink to show their support for this noble cause. A strong advocate for breast cancer awareness is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure movement.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure global movement was created by Susan's sister Nancy Brinker. Nancy started this…

Happy Early Halloween!

Orange, black, witches, spiders, and candy are some things that come to my mind when I think of Halloween. Halloween as most of us know is a widely celebrated American tradition. It is celebrated on October 31st. I remember that when I was young I would always look forward to Halloween because I wanted to buy a new costume. My two favorite costumes were my pink Power Ranger costume and my Belle dress from Beauty and the Beast. As a child,… Continue

Do what you love!

There are times when you might feel down because things aren't going the way you planned. Everything seems to be going wrong. People start to tell you that what you're doing is worthless or even worse they tell you that you're not doing it correctly that maybe you should just give up. I know that this has happened to me on various occasions but I knew better than to give up. You should do what you love regardless of what people think or say. It always feels good to accomplish… Continue

Facebook: Good or Bad?

Facebook is a social phenomena that is practically taking over the world. Pictures, News Feeds, Groups, Friends, and Farmville are just some of the things that you can find on this site. Almost everyone I know has a Facebook account. If it weren't for Facebook, I wouldn't be able to communicate with friends who live far away and I wouldn't be able to reconnect with people from the past such as old friends from elementary and middle school who I haven't seen in ages. Because of…

Be Green!

Whenever I hear the word "green," I immediately think of the environment. Images of trees, flowers, grass, and oceans pop into my mind. These images somehow give me peace and tranquility. However, I then start to think of the damage that we as humans are doing to our planet. Wars, nuclear waste, and smog are just some of the things that are contaminating this beautiful place we call "earth." Unfortunately, all this waste and pollution are causing global warming. High…

The joy of meeting people from different cultural backgrounds

I have always found it exciting to meet people from different cultural backgrounds. I'm always very intrigued to learn about what people my age do in different parts of the world. There are times that they do pretty much the same type of things as I do and there are other times when they do much more exciting things than I do. The last 2 weeks I was in Germany for a short study abroad course for school. During this trip, I met people from Germany, Italy, Zimbabwe, Austria, and… Continue
