When I think of a feminist, I think of Beyonce because she helps us girls build up our and her songs support me.
A feminist means fighting for women's rights, like Beyonce. I do think being a feminist does matter. A feminist to me means that I get to stand for my rights and show the world that women can do what ever men do.
A feminist to me is someone that is independent of men. Women and men both learn.

I am a chica poderosa because I do not let anyone tell me what I should or should not do with my life. Stereotypes are held up against us Latina women and I think it is important to not believe in the stereotypes, such as Latinas being housewives, Latinas being caretakers, or Latinas being submissive women. I want to steer away from the stereotypes brought upon our society about Latina women.
I am not going to let anyone tell me not to pursue a degree in Social Work just…Continue

I help the future because every year I go to to the beach in California and help clean it up. This is what I love to do and I think it is important for us to help out our environment.
I am helping future generations of Latinitas succeed by being the first generation college student. Both of my parents did not go to college and I am the oldest, so I plan to go to college to be the class of 2025. Also, I would probably be on of the first to graduate…Continue

The girls in the after school clubs had an introduction lesson on computer science. Computer science is telling the computer what to do and how to do it. Sometimes we forget how to respect and be kind to one another. Friendship is a valuable thing and our peers are people we spend most of our time with. However, sometimes we take advantage of these friendships by being rude to one another. During Valentine's Week, the girls got to brainstorm what a good friend is and what a bad friend is. A good…Continue

Day of the Dead started as a way to celebrate and embrace the dead.
Calavera poems are short poems recited on Day of the Dead that take a humorous approach on the holiday. It is an imaginary obituary in which someone or something still living or deceased is poked fun at. They describe qualities or funny stories we remember about the deceased and those still alive.
Our after school club members participated in a poem competition, where they competed their poems…Continue

In honor of Dia de los Muertos on November 2nd, the girls were able to paint stones as if it was a sugar skull, seen on altars on the day of the dead. A big part of the Mexican tradition is to honor our relatives who have passed away. It is a day to celebrate where families go to…Continue

I was born in the United States, but my parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents were born in different parts of Mexico. My dad and grandma only speak Spanish, which made it very difficult for me to communicate with them because I was accustomed to the English language. As I got older, I took Spanish classes and was becoming fluent in the language. I was very afraid to speak Spanish because we live in El Paso where the majority of people speak Spanish and judge you for not…Continue

She is the youngest of four sisters who earned a Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, while appearing in college plays.
