#WCW

While there are a lot of Latina Women that are known for their heroic ways of changing the world. I think that for me, Frida Kahlo wins at life. She is very famous for her paintings and artwork, and even though most of them were self-portraits, they all held a story behind them.

Her artwork always showed the Mexican culture, where she was born in. Because it was very important to her. When she was…

We're All In This Together- Community Outreach

When I was younger I always felt like I was facing everything alone. I had self-esteem issues, I was shy, and not as social with other girls. But only because I thought everyone else's lives were perfect compared to mine. Then my last year of high school, I joined Latinitas. I've always wanted to become a writer no matter what it took, and I was not doing it for the money, but for the joy it gave me once I wrote something. But my family always…

My culture is Delicious

I know right? Delicious. My favorite part about my culture is definitely the food. It's what makes me, me. I love it, I worship it! (not really) but it is awesome! The Enchiladas, the tacos, tostadas, the spiciness, flautas, guacamole, and everything in between! When I think of the food, my face transforms into the emoji…

Overcoming Cultural Issues

As Hispanic, my culture defines me.

The food, the religion, the language, the traditions, and the morals.

My grandparents and the older generations are the ones that have started everything in our families.…

Stereotypes? More like silliness.

"Latinos are dirty"

"Latinos are the gardeners/janitors"

"Latinas have to be dressed provocatively"

"Teen Latinas are the ones getting pregnant"

"Latinos are immigrants"…

TBT: I'm glad I learned.

Living next to the border has impacted my life in many ways.

My dad, born in Juarez and my mom born in El Paso. The best of both worlds.

My siblings and I were born in El Paso, Spanish was our first language. We attended a private school in Juarez when we were younger, English wasn't a required language. When we grew up we moved…

Thankful

I personally think Pope Francis is the coolest guy there is. Without a doubt. He has helped people all over the world fight different issues and find a happy ending of their own!

I think it is incredible how he came to our country recently for a visit.

And even if we sometimes take things for granted, I think that sometimes we…

Being Latina is hard, But Worth it

Being a Latina today is not as bad as it was decades ago. But taking into consideration all of the advancements in society has gone through you would expect for society to treat us, Latinas, in a more humane way.

I am proud of being Latina, it makes me happy and I am proud where I come from, but I am tired of all the issues we, as Latino(a)s have to face in our everyday lives.

For example:

-When you don't speak English because you were raised in a Hispanic…

Wise Latina Guest Speakers

About two weeks ago, I had the chance to attend to the Wise Latina Conference with Several guest speakers. These wonderful ladies are writers, producers, and directors. Nancy De Los Santos and Denisse Chavez.

Nancy De Los Santos was one of the producers in the famous film "Selena" she had the pleasure of working with Jennifer Lopez and the Quintanilla family. She was also the first Latina to serve in the board of directors. It amazes me that someone this important with many…

The Beautiful Truth

These past few weeks I've been dealing with several friends and young girls dealing with self-esteem. It especially catches my attention when girls say to a magazine "Why can't I be this skinny?" But the truth is, they're not. They were altered with technology to make it seem as if they're "perfect", but are they really? Along these talks, I had the chance to write a poem specifically on this topic which I hope you like and give any feedback…

How Do I Say Goodbye?

This summer, my best friend is transferring schools. He's going away to Texas Tech in Lubbock. I am going to miss him so much, and I really have no idea what I am going to do without him. But I would never tell him to stay or tell him things for him to feel bad, because I really want him to leave. He wants to leave, and I want what's best for him. I've known him since middle school, but we really actually became friends my senior year in high school, and being…

Dealing with a Motherly Loss

On Sunday, I went out with a friend to eat dinner, we were laughing, sharing stories, and having a good time. While we were trading stories, I found out that her mother had passed away. She told me like nothing had happened. She didn't give it much importance, but the way I saw it was that I couldn't even imagine going through that, I am so happy and blessed to still have my mother with me. I couldn't think of what I would do if she weren't.…

My Motivating Talks to Myself

Every now and then I get those little motivating rages. For example, one day I'm thinking "Tomorrow morning, I'm going to wake up early, make myself breakfast, go exercise, get my laundry done, and read ahead for the next class". Then when I actually go to sleep and wake up the next morning I'm more like this "5 more minutes!" Recently, like 5 minutes ago, I had another one of those motivational moments I hope to keep, and it goes a little like…

People Change, and that's Okay.

When I was little, I was never lost, I was never alone, I was never left out, I was never ignored.

I was the only girl and the smallest of three other boys, my parents and everyone always paid attention to me, I grew up with boys, seeing things from their point of view, doing things with them, and learning how to do things that boys do. My mom calls me Princesa or princess. (Yes, she still does) My first best friend was a boy. He was like a brother to me, I saw every friend…
