Latinitas - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

Austin City Limits - Remembering First...

Before I can start sharing about this year's national music festival: Austin City Limits, two weekends of star-studded as well as new music on 5+ stages in sunny Austin, TX, I have to reflect on years' past and the wonderful Latino music acts that have showed through the decade.  My first encounter with ACL Fest was my first encounter with Amigos Invisibles, back in 2005.  The band that never stops playing brings nodes of disco, techno, Latin "gozada" rhythms - Venezuelan beats that evoke life, vitality and romance.  I was in love from start to "En Cuatro" a comedic song with an amazing base rhythm for dancing and their usual closer -a  Spanglish -"All Day Today, All Day Tonight," a congo-starting song about a party that gets out of hand.  Following Amigos was an intimate show with Aterciopelados, the Velvety Ones from Colombia featuring frontwoman Andrea Echeverria.  A Pacha Mama, herself, Andrea is all about securing and sustaining mother earth in her music and day to day.  She was, let's say, "hippie fragrant," beautiful and that album that year "Oye" is still a favorite and stands at the forefront of my in the car discography.  I think it was that same year Brazilian Girls played the tent, the very ethnic venue at ACL and Gotan Project from Argentina.  Brazilian Girls brought mystique, reggae and integrated Portugeuse, French and Spanish in its music.  Gotan Project captures a technified tango like no other.  Unforgettable performance at dusk.  And then there was 2011' performance by Bomba Estereo. Fuego!!!!  ACL has brought Latino artists annually reminding the U.S. music market of the immensity of rock en Espanol.  Ok, now I can share about Zoe, Juanes and music de los Estados Unidos!
