Latinitas - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

Not long ago, a friend of mine suggested I read an article on photo editing and the media. We all know how controversial this issue is and how important it is to make girls aware of it. However, is it me, or are magazines ridiculously editing magazine covers? Because a few weeks ago, I stared noticing that many of the photo edits are very obvious.

I remember seeing a cover of Britney Spears on Cosmo and her head looked too small for her body. Another time, I saw Paulina Rubio in a Latin American version of a popular magazine and her cheeks looked very pink. As I look closer, I could see the area on her cheeks was very pixelated. Another time, I saw another magazine cover where the body of the celebrity (whose name I can't remember) was somewhat disproportionate.

Maybe it's the fact that I've recently been spending a lot of time hearing about this issue and I've seen a couple of examples of how easy it is to enhance a photograph. Whatever the case may be, some photo edits are very apparent. It seems as though some magazines have no shame in editing photos and negatively affecting the well being of millions. It's unfortunate the media is reluctant to change.

Of course, it's fairly easy to enhance someone's looks through photoshop. But digitally enhancing a person's image is not natural and can end up disappointing many. Isn't it sad just knowing that someone had to change you're photo to make you look better? It's surprising that many celebrities don't speak out about photo editing since it hurts their image the most.

The people editing photos for magazine covers have made several mistakes proving that no matter how much we may try to find perfection, nothing in this world is perfect. We should embrace our imperfections and love our natural beauty. It's what gives every one of us a special spark and makes every individual unique. Imperfection is a what makes us human and beautiful. .
