Latinitas Media Watch: Latinita for President

Hillary Clinton paved the way for women to run for the highest office in this country. But, looking at the sexist media coverage of her campaign just reinforced that the glass ceiling still exists for women in the U.S.A. Whether you call yourself a feminist or not, you probably can't deny that the media treated Hillary differently than her male counterparts. She was scrutinized for her voice, emotions and fashion style. When she spoke firmly with confidence, she was attacked as a B@&%! When she got teary eyed in an emotional moment, she was made fun of for being too weak. When she discussed her lifetime of public service, her experience was ignored. When she made advances in the polls, the focus was shifted to criticizing her wardrobe. When she made profound arguments in debates, her insight was minimized as annoying nagging. I was saddened to see that sexism still plays a role in American politics. I have a dream that one day we will break this glass ceiling. I have a dream that one day I will see a Latinita as president of the United States of America.

Sadly this is the so called progress that mainstream media has pushed as feminist groundbreaking, just enough to let us dream but not enough to give us a role model. Strong women have always been the butt of joke, as fear grips the masses on the idea of an intelligent woman actually taking the reigns and making decisions. Oooh, scary!
What I found insulting....angryface...was their idea of the magical Palin brainwash. We're in the 21'st century and women are still thought as dumb, incoherent, weak, (did I mention stupid), vain, easily manipulated...the idea that any type of woman would be enough to get the female vote.

Well, I need to go to confession so I'll keep my eccentric wording to myself!

Yes, one day there will be a Latina for President! I know it, we are growing and we are not taking it sitting down. Women are occupying more positions of power, Latinas are demonstrating that we can and we will.
Hillary and Obama opened the doors, and we are coming through.
Si Se Puede!

First thing I'll do as president is paint the white house sunset pink and put some indoor tropical plants.
We need color people!
