Latinitas - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

I was on Facebook last night and I found that my friend's status said something close to "Why can't men be more chivalrous?" A few guys started commenting and arguing that it's women's fault that men are no longer chivalrous. One guy mentioned that women don't like it when men open the door.

I personally don't believe any woman is against courtesy As a woman I appreciate a man who is considerate enough to open a door for me, becasue I would do the same for him. I understand there's on going debate about whether the bill should be split during a date, etc., but chivalry goes beyond just paying for dinner. It's about having consideration for another person, being genrous and most importantly being respectful.

There are women who want to show others how independent they are and feel undermined when a man offers to pay the bill or take her coat off. But there are other women who feel disrespected when a man doesn't take these things into consideration. Like everything else in this world, women's ideals cannot be generalized. Every woman has different beliefs, just like all men do. But every woman (and person) can agree that undermining women is not a form of respect. Sure, women want to be equal, but we also don't like being put down or mistreated. Chivalry might be dead to some men, but respect is very much alive.
