Latinitas - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

Okay Latinitas, Quick question, how many of you know about folklore? And for those (if any) who do, can you think of any?

Well. for those of you who don't know what folklore is... Folklore is when stories get told and passed down in certain regions. For instance, lets say that here is this tree, and that when someone touches it they immediately get healed form whatever it is that ails them. Another example (well at least in my mind) of folklore, is ghost stories. These ghost stories though have to come form the region where you are from. Remember, when I say "ghost stories" I do not mean Bloody Mary. Because, Bloody Mary is dumb and it is also a drink.

I also think that many of the more famous stories started out as regional folklore, but quickly became so famous that people in other region started to tell them as well. Then, over the course of many years they became the fairytales that we know and love. Yes, yes, I know shocking...Just kidding, though I believe that some of you were coming to that conclusion on your own. Now, just to give you an idea of the stories that I am referring to, I want you to think Camelot and Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast, because its French and very popular with little girls. I wanted you to think Camelot because, its English, I don't know how many of you new about Arthur and Merlin of course the sword that was in the stone, but I wanted to through that one in there.

Granted, the folklore genre is much bigger that all that I have mentioned. All the same I hope that this gave you a better idea of what folklore is.

Now, for those of you who would like to read a French folklore story, there will be a link below.

Later Chicas!
